great advice bumblebeern. how is FIU going so far? do you find the classes easier than nursing school?

FIU is great!! I don't have to take pathophysiology because they said that all the science classes that we took for our AA is enough!

They will give me 24-30 credits for 3 EC exams that are not thru FIU

right now, I am only taking 2 courses online, and it's awesome, just writing papers, I actually wrote and turned in two today!!

FIU is an awesome school, it's not that hard at all. This time I am going for the "A" grades.

Nursing school took more time, just because there was a lot of reading, and studying for tests and worrying about clinical return-demos (I hated those).

Now, it is so much more relaxing, I am very happy they have the program totally online. THe only thing I will have to do clinicals towards the end of the term, but I hear from other women who I work with, that you can do your hours in a week at a facility where they place you or you find. and it's awesome, I do my homework right here, I have my child playing and I can cook and come back to the computer. this is me==>:yldhdbng:------nah, just kidding!!

So I am just taking my time. I wish I didn't have to pay for school out of pocket first, but I will get reimbursed at the end of the term when I pass classes. If I fail, I don't get compesated.

dont laugh at me! but BCC traumatized me so much about not using calculators-- that honest, I can't even use calculators when I am at work!!! I take out a piece of paper and pensil and do it old style!!! On the nclex I was so nervous and used their erase board--but since I was nervous, and they gave me peds math for goodness sake---to me that is the hardest!! the test gave me 2 of those, and one normal... thank the lord above for that 3rd normal math because after that the computer left me alone.

great bumblebee, i'm happy to hear thing are working in your favor and your school schedule isnt hectic. i know you are so loving not having to repay back hefty student loans. i attend south university but i applyed to Bcc due to cost (50,000 South to $6,000 BCC). and also when i become RN i want to enjoy my money and help take better care of my family and parents. if i have such heavy loans to repay then i would have to give up taking care of some things.

did you say school(BCC) was over at 12. so im assuming the schedule is 8-12 am i correct?

That schedule sounds great!!

Nova: great school, great teachers, great facility, respectful students, you get treated with so much respect from the instructors, and they actually help you and want you to pass!, there are tons of tutoring if you are not doing well-- tutoring for writing, anatomy,.. the library there is amazing, you can find and check out basically anything. and you get your BSN in a little over 2 years. they curb the grades. so if you are almost at the passing, and the highest grade was a 96, they will curb it and give the students those extra points. ALL the tests are written the way that NCLEX would write it. so basically you are getting prepared for your exam all the way from the beginning.

------------only bad part I could think of, is the cost

BCC: they don't curb the grades, if you are doing well and you miss 1 point, they will not give it you,-- they don't care if they have 19 students and 9 fail one class--- all 9 students will fail that class (I saw it!!). They dont let you make up clinical days even if you had a baby (I know, I lived it) when they have clinicals available on other campuses. the teachers sometimes treat you without respect, the teachers--some-- are disorganized and you don't know what they want you to know because they don't tell you. if you complain about something they dont care, they look at you as if you don't matter. they dont prepare you for the nclex-- you can't use calculators, and if you fail the math test you fail the entire semester even if it is by one point, and some teachers give you a chance because they know you will fail the entire semester if you don't pass that math test--- but you don't know wich one will help you and which one will not.

---------the only good part is that if you finish, you study on your own, and you pass the nclex. most of my classmates passed except for 1-- but I know she did not study and put in her time.

your'e welcome

Thwy wouldn't let you make up your clinical day!?!!? Even though you had a baby?!?! I'm getting scared now:o

I missed a clinical day because I failed the 1st math test--- I retook that math test during peds, passed, got back into clinicals, but the peds teacher did not schedule the test before starting the clinical, which meant that all of us had to go 2 times during that week to make up the clinical.

I had a baby, so I was taking psych clinicals & peds together-------- all in all, I ended up missing that one day in peds, that they did not want to let me make up the following semester.

THey are VERY strict with the rules there, and I was so upset, I was doing so good, made a mistake by failing my peds math and graduated the semester after my anticipated date.

I ended up making up the clinical day the following semester, and the other students were amazed by my situation and how ridiculous it was for them not to let me move on for missing one day.

Sorry to disagree, but there are some courses that should not be curved. I think nursing is one of those courses. As far as the math, I taught 9 year olds to do conversions. Since BC's math test is in the form of a word problem, I'd place it at the 6th grade level. My former 8th graders who have taken the FCAT would find these math tests laughable.

As students, we empathize with other students who fail by one point or who failed clinical b/c of the math test.

As a patient, I want to be comfortable that the person who is providing my care or the care of my family member passed on their own abilities and not due to a curve.

With that said, some instructors could be more understanding and respectful.

I made me previous post before reading this one. I didn't mean to sound insensitive to your situation with the math test. You really got a raw deal at BC. The PEDS teacher at north is fabulous. This would not have happened on her watch.

I'm sorry! I just hated the "no calculator" thing at BCC!! that just drove me nuts!!

The curve thing, I understand, but sometimes you are just missing one point-- and sometimes they really should do that.

I agree that the instructors should be more respectful to the students.

Oh man, when I was making up that peds day, all of the students in that clinical that I went to agreed with me on how ridiculous it was to miss 1 day and sit out an entire semester.

that peds teacher should have scheduled the test after attending that first day of clinicals like my medsurg teacher did with me after I failed that medsurg 1st math test.

sometimes things are unfair, and when you get to the real world, it is totally different.

we started my class with 50 students, and only 11 graduated........ some of the students that failed out because of one point, others because of the math test--- and me because I missed one day in clinicals that the dean, or teacher wouldn't let me make it up with the following class the following semester.

LeavingTeaching4RN,

when I got a peds math during the real nclex-rn, I got so nervous, just because I hate math---and I didn't even know how to use the calculator because I had several people tell me that the math was easy for the test-- so I ended up getting 2 peds math--- while all of my classmates who I spoke to after their tests did not get any.

BC should start letting students use calculators for nclex
