Broward College Nursing Program January 2017

Published

Hello to all the future Applicants for the January 17' nursing program. I know it's really early and August admission process hasn't been completed yet but I couldn't help my self. I'm so anxious to get in the program it took me a long time to get to this point. I have completed all the pre reqs that have an affect on your gpa and I have a 3.0. I recently just passed the Hesi for the second try with a 76% in anatomy, 92% in math and 80% in the other 3 sections. I'm in MGF1106 right now grades will post early Aug. so I'm going to turn in the Application right after that. I hope this forum can be used for all us to get through this waiting process together.

Hi,

I feel like a stalker on this page. Anyhow, I contacted one of the professors that teaches Process(this information and email can be found on BC website under course finder and professor email will be there) and I was advised to get the new edition of Perry Potter. Fundamentals of nursing 9e. I bought it on Amazon for $113.00. So far I have managed to read about 5 chapters namely: Vitals, hygiene, immobility etc. crazy right. There is one chapter for complete assessment/head-to-toe assessment. (supper long). By the way my application is in review and I was awarded points. Good luck!

Hello everyone!

I have seen some comments regarding textbooks and and wanted to know if anyone knew the actual textbooks we are using for Process 1 and math for first semester? I can't seem to find it online and I wanted to shop around & start purchasing them 2-3 weeks from now after acceptance so I can be familiar with the books. I have 2 friends in the program at Broward but they are not sure if the editions are changing or the book.

I just want to know the latest required texts or how we can find out that information on Broward's website. Thank you all ;)

Process 1 is the perry and potter fundamentals of nursing 9th edition

Math is dosage calculations by Gloria pickar. The latest edition is the 9th. I can't confirm if that's the edition we'll be using but I would imagine that every term uses the latest due to medicine and science constantly evolving and moving forward.

There are downloadable pdf's out there for both books if you want to start reading now and then wait until we get the official list to start buying. I wouldn't buy anything until we get an official list from the school for the January 2017 term. Just my luck they would switch to a different book lol

I too feel like a stalker lol I check this site and the bc limited access application every day at least three times! lol I know I am torturing myself but I just want to see a change ! :( my status still says "transcripts not evaluated" and it sucks cause I get so worried lol. But thank you for putting the book information above that is a really good idea ! so we start familiarizing ourselves with the information ! I am just so excited to start this journey I know its tough but I am willing to give it my all ! :up:

How many points did you receive

I still haven't received any, I guess they're taking longer with mine because I applied last minute and I am a transfer so apparently none of my transcripts have been evaluated but as far as I know my gpa is a 3.0 and I scored 80's on my Hesi. How about you ?

I wouldn't worry I haven't seen that my application is under review neither points awarded and I applied a month ago. I think they just have a lot of application to work through.

Remember Nichole said there is no particular order of when they evaluate and update the points! Just stay patient! You should see some changes next week. Trust me the wait is the worst I know..this is my second time applyingí ½í¹„

I am in the same boat as you. Great GPA, great HeSi scores and app status says college transcripts not evaluated. I am also a transfer student but I'm not worried honestly. Nichole has assured us that we have nothing to worry about until the end of next week.

Hi everyone! I copied this from other threads on here from prior semester. For those of us that are concerned with GPA and points.

Please see below.

Just a few reminders from the Health Science Admissions Office:

** We are in the process of entering everyone's application before decisions can be made. Please do not email us with "My friend applied after me and their information is in, but mine is not." The order applications are received has no baring on the order they are entered. Everyone will be in before we make decisions.

** To monitor the status of your application, log in to your MYBC account and click on limited access application status. Once we enter your information in the system, it will show up there. Please do not call or email us asking what your status is. If you feel there is an error once your status is updated, then email us. Do not post asking others to help you. I am the only person on the board from Health Science Admissions.

** We stopped taking applications for the August term on May 20. Anyone who applies after, will be considered for the January term.

** Points are NOT awarded for MAC or HESI, only for pre-requisite GPA.

To calculate your pre-req GPA (grades from ENC1101, BSC2085, BSC2085L, BSC2086 and BSC2086L), you can use the following:

For 3 credit classes:

A = 12 points

B = 9 points

C = 6 points

For 1 credit classes (LABS):

A = 4 points

B = 3 points

C = 2 points

Add up the total points and divide by 11. This is your pre-req GPA. Your pre-req GPA DOES NOT show on your degree audit.

Based on your pre-req GPA, the points are awarded as follows:

1 point = 2.5

2 points = 2.6]

3 points = 2.7

4 points = 2.8

5 points = 2.9

6 points = 3.0

7 points = 3.1

8 points = 3.2

9 points = 3.3

10 points = 3.4

11 points = 3.5

12 points = 3.6

13 points = 3.7

14 points = 3.8

15 points = 3.9

16 points = 4.0

lol that makes me feel a little bit better ! thank you I am just really nervous ! and Nichole sorry for being so annoying ! lol :(

Never annoying! I totally understand where you guys are coming from. However, you have to understand where we, as an admissions team, are coming from too. This is why I make sure I take time out of my day to keep you guys posted.
