Broward College Nursing Program August 2016

U.S.A. Florida

Hello!

I just wanted to make a thread for nursing program at BC for this coming Fall semester.

I passed the Hesi last week after 4 days of studying. (Got tired of studying the Elvesier book so I took my chances)

My overall score: 85%. My lowest score's reading: 78% ( English is my second language and I took this section last so didn't have enough time to really read the questions)

I turned in my application last Wednesday. The lady said to look for an email around May- June.

Anyone is applying for Fall? Did your status on myBC change yet?

sheylla1994 my gpa is 2.9 and mine still says application in review. :( it sucks that we aren't even considered an alternate.

i know it crazy one of The semesters people got in with 2.5s but I guess we can try for january

16 points, 92% on hesi overall

Pre admission and hoping to go to central!

can we use our same Hesi scores if we apply for January, or do we have to retake the Hesi?

Congrats to all the future nurses who got accepted. I hope to be in ur shoes come January. For those who didn't get accepted or whatever the case may be I started a forum for January 17'. For the 3.0s that got alternate seats I wish you nothing but good luck but if God forbid you don't get a seat I also have a 3.0 and we can all be on this waiting game together for January and pray that we get that pre admission status. We come a long way let's not give up now

Do you have a 3.0 and where offer an alternate seat ? I was but I'm not to hopeful about it I plan on applying to technical schools even if it's out of pocket as well as thinking of getting my lpn since it only takes about a year and then doing lpn to RN possibly for broward or whatever school I am offered I want to stay hopeful with the alternate seat but in reality it's not a guarantee anyone else applying to other schools like private ones or anything ?

Wooohoo! Me tooí ½í¸†

No I wasn't able to apply to Aug due to math not being completed. I did apply yesterday to the January program hopefully 3.0gpa will be good enough to get the preadmission status. If I don't get in January I will try for May. I wish I could do the lpn route but with a mother of 2 and a wife I need to hurry up and get this done. I would consider keiser if I don't get in January or may of next year

I don't really like to post emotional stuff, but if anyone is feeling depressed or under the weather right now (if this can help any of you @ all) I want to share a little bit of my personal story leading up to finally receiving acceptance into this year's nursing program… (excuse the grammar as I'm speaking from the heart)

At one point in my life I found myself at the bottom of the food chain with a slew of family & relational baggage. I was teenager at high risk for suicide. My parents told me that I wouldn't even graduate HS. But I OVERCAME, it started off as me being angry at certain people in my life for treating me like garbage. I isolated myself from most of the negative people I knew and I enrolled for honors classes- like Honors A&P… of course I originally signed up to show off my competency skills, but in the process of showing off I fell absolutely head over heels in love with A&P. I Graduated High School in 2011, I studied as a CNA throughout my junior year, managed to be an Advanced Placement student, and I raised my cumulative gpa to 4.2....

After that, I went to Broward College and I graduated with my associate's degree in Biology in 2013. I immediately started in the workforce, and I wanted more health experience so naturally I completed a phlebotomy technician program in 2013. I soon learned that finding an entry level job in the field was not easy - I got discouraged... I took a 2 year break from school I found myself in national business sales & marketing. When I realized that I didn't want to waste any more time being a Business Hustler Wolf of Wall Street” type... I went back to school (FAU) in the Summer of 2015 and finished my prerequisites, and serious HESI & TEAS studying by December. I worked throughout my prereqs full-time as a waitress making an average 20-30$ in tips per shift- A HUGE downgrade from my previous high paying sales position. While I was grinding at FAU, FAU discontinued their transfer student RN Admissions Program (another setback). I was even told from one adviser at FAU that I should not even try to apply to their nursing school that it's "too competitive" in which point I laughed at her for trying to scare me. So in the Spring of 2016, I got the guts and took the FULL Sectioned HESI EXAM and scored an overall 90 score on my first try. I sent my scores & finished applications to 3 different schools (Miami-Dade, Broward, Palm Beach State). Miami-Dade rejected my application because I did not take the HESI examination at THEIR testing center. Miami-Dade's nursing admissions called me and told me that even though it was their advising office that had mistaken checking me off and that they had given me the wrong information... They do NOT accept HESI scores from BC's testing center and they were NOT going to allow me to use the test scores even though I had passed every section. After submitting multiple emails/voicemails to the deans & directors at Miami-Dade.... I finally told their nursing admissions representative that, Even though the whole situation at their school was not right and handled unprofessionally, that they could go ahead and toss my application because my business would most definitely end up going somewhere else.... Have a nice day.” EfrSz7yetV1Utla6N_ZmrFD-EhaD8YCuk4i17GO9XK8sVnS-r79XZKJgbn8RzvRMFnbU0ikM_kfJujPZwBc01-Kh_AEvKt9T4vdmOyTRVsMG-oB0PWsGVqMMX8zM6P7FNI7KP3RhThis is the attitude we MUST keep. I just want to tell you don't lose faith guys. You can do it! Change your mindset, Change your Life! This is the time to stay strong and focused! You gotta have tunnel vision to reach your goals. Even when you can't see it, you may even have to fake it till you build your self-confidence. Today I'm at a humble 3.7, 13 pts on this application and even though I know it's not a 4.0, I know I worked my tushie off to get here and that setbacks/challenges are a normal circumstance all successful people must overcome. There are many many challenges in nursing school, and I know this is only the beginning because my long term goals don't end at BC.

I hope that tonight we all go to bed knowing that WE ARE ALL able to accomplish our goals with a little bit of fire, and perseverance. This is NOT the END.

Mine was 2.9 as well and 88% on Hesi. Mine says in review... Oh well. I want to know if we can retake a class we passed? If I retook 1 class my GPA on those 5 classes would go from 2.9 to 3.4...

I'd definitely retake it if at all possible, definitely would book an immediate appointment with health advising to talk about your options.
