Hi everyone I didn't see one made yet so I guess this will be the official thread for BC May 2015!
Question about the book list: I'm not really understanding what the first two bullet points are. I asked a North campus bookstore employee and she wasn't sure either. Any help? The bullet points are: "Broward College Modules and Nursing Student Manual (with evaluations)" and "Handout Packet for each course: Campus and Course specific (if applicable)" If anyone should know, I thought it would be the bookstore employee, and since she didn't that got me slightly worried.
I'm waiting on my titter results, but if it turns out that I need the Hep shot I'm definitely getting them. My only concern is whether ALL 3 shots have to be done before clinicals? Or is it ok that at least the first shot has been given.
At least have the first one done.. A month after you get the first shot you'll need the second one! I started in January and by the time our return demo was scheduled we had to have the first 2 shots! They will definitely let you know what you're missing though.. So just get your first shot and you'll be fine!

Don't worry about the modules, they're not in the bookstore. It will be on D2L for you to print!! That's how it was for us when I started in January
If getting shots is hindering you from wanting to go to nursing school, you have a long road ahead of you. If there are things you are hesitant about before even starting the program, then boy are you in for a shocker. This will be one of the hardest things you will have to do in your life, the shots will be the least of your worries. If you don't truly want to become a nurse with all of your heart then you will fail, undoubtedly. I'm just trying to be honest with you when I say that you have to put 1,000% effort into this program and without the desire to help people and be a part of this amazing, wonderful field of saving lives and caring for people then what's the point? You will be wasting 18 months of your life just to end up in a career you're not happy with. Find something you're truly passionate about and nothing will get in your way.. nothing negative you hear will matter because you will be doing what you love.

Not sure who this is directed to, but I absolutely agree. I happen to be one of those people that like getting shots (weird, I know) and I love watching my blood being drawn. So that would never hinder me going to nursing school. Thanks for your honesty about nursing school and the nursing field. I'm excited to begin! I've been wanting this forever and the moment has finally come. Like you said, I'm sure that this will be the hardest thing we've ever done. But it will all be worth it in the end, when we're making a difference in people's lives. Wishing everyone all the best!!! I know we will all be successful!
Well!!!! I have lived long enough and have had enough struggles in my life, and I know about working hard and giving till it hurts. I was not born with a silver spoon in my mouth. I love people and am determined to become a nurse, so I will become one. Florida is not the only to do nursing, after school I can choose to go to any other state or country and work there. After becoming a nurse I don't have to work in a hospital, nursing home, or clinic. There are other things I can do with my nursing degree. I will listen to whatever people are saying about the nursing profession because I want to know (the good, the bad, and the ugly). The less surprises the better for me personally. I am not terrified of taking shots, its so much more to it than that. I cannot place my absolute trust (especially with my body) in any thing or any one. That's all I'm saying about that. I know the direction I am going, I know how to struggle and come out on top, I know where I want to be in the end. I hope for your sake that 5 years down the road you still feel the same about the nursing profession in Florida, you are working really hard for this. Trust me, 18 months will not be in vain because I am very versatile and I have other skills and professions which will be a complement to nursing.
Ok everyone lets put the boxing gloves away! I don't think smilecuzimhappy was out to criticize or put anyone down. She's currently in the program and has seen people come and go and was sharing some insight. We're all here to support each other and help each other out. Maybe some of us will start and them decide this program or career is not for u. Doesn't mean were going to think any less of u or each other. As far as nursing "pay" & "mistreatment" anywhere u go that could happen. Not just florida. Just cause u hear a horror story or 2 from someone who is currently a nurse doesn't mean everyone feels the same way. Besides if they ar really unhappy where they are they can always look for another job. Honestly the only thing that holds u back is yourself! So let's just all take a breathe and remember why we are here Good luck everyone! No matter which path u decide to take!
