Hi everyone I didn't see one made yet so I guess this will be the official thread for BC May 2015!
the hepatitis shots will be explained on the packet of the second orientation. If you checked the one that says you have gotten all of them already, you will have to provide with titers to prove immunity. If you pick the one I believe that says that you haven't gotten them, but are in the process of getting the first one, like if you know when you're gonna get it....write the date and come back with proof that you got it.BASICALLY, it is voluntary, you are not required to get them but why would you not? You will be exposed to blood so yeah.
So, if you have had them when you were little like myself, and the you're still immune to it, meaning you're not borderline, provide them with the documents of the titers along with the other titers, and if you are going to get them, check the option that says you haven't gotten them, and then return with the documents to update the portfolio in their nursing office.
This is what was told to us during our orientation at NORTH.
Thank you, yeah I was planning on getting the vaccine regardless. Better safe than sorry!

Hepatitis are not voluntary, you are definitely required to get them.. You have to get EVERYTHING on the physical paperwork done, I'm at North campus and they check everything and if they're not done you won't get your clinical ticket to do you return demo!! So get your titers done, flu shot isn't optional either, do EVERYTHING!!
Oh and hepatitis B vaccine IS voluntary. On the form u have the option of checking the box to decline and sign. If u are employed by the hospital u are required to have it. If u work at doctors office it's optional. But like Gaby said it's better to get it. Especially since we will be working hands on with the patients. Why risk it.

We had to sign the same form with the check box to decline and it didn't matter.. we were told it is required to get our titers done!! If you're immune then you don't need the Hep B shot but you will definitely need the proof that you had your titers done.. This is for North campus I don't know about the other campuses just trying to help you guys out! If you're not immune the shot has to be done, you will not be permitted in the hospital and you won't get your clinical ticket for return demo... I'm only telling from experience!! Good luck

Are you absolutely sure about hepatitis B specifically?
Ok, yes, I see where it is required.( Broward Community College also requires that all Health Science students obtain the Hepatitis B vaccine prior to admission) this was taken from the BC site. I was hoping that we had a choice. I hope this nursing career thing is worth getting all these shots. I keep hearing about the lousy pay and treatment of nurses in Florida.
If you're hesitant about our suggestion for hepatitis B vaccine just email the campus u plan to attend they will clear it all up for u. Regardless if u want to be a nurse i think u should get it. No question about it. I know it's 3 shots and maybe getting stuck bothers u (I know some people don't like it) but you'll be good to go after it's over. Trust me you'll be glad u did it if heaven forbid something happens.

I got to go back there.. I bought my scrub tops too big. I did try it over my clothes and it looked fine. I called and they told me I can exchange it. Thank God I bought it at South because North doesn't allow you to bring it back.
