Broward college May 2012

Published

Hi I would like to apply for the generic May 2012 entry nursing program at Broward college. Any one else looking into applying for this program. Let's help each other out in this process. I know it's a bit early but I'm excited !!!:)

@ sweething24, great!! You're in, you see, we told you there was still hope. Make the best of it! Start, practicing your skills from HCP0001, and practice the math from the packet in the bookstore. I have a link for some dosage math practice website, message me and I'll send it to you, 'cause I don't think I can post the link here.

Congratulations Sweething24!!!! It's great to hear the wonderful news! I know someone that also didn't get accepted so I'm going to tell her to check her status and with admissions to see if there is a chance that she could get in this term. Thanks for letting us know!

Sugarbianca - I also deferred my seat till August, but would like to get a head start on some dosage math practice. If I email you could you send it to me too? I remember reading somewhere on some previous forums that there was an optional math class offered which really helped some students out. I wonder if that class is still being offered?

@Hope2bPicuRN - sure I'll try to send it through message on here, if that doesn't work send me an email at my all nurses username at hotmail dot com. Just put something about allnurses in the subject, 'cause any email from someone not on my contact list will go to junk and i'll have to go fish it out.

Got it! Thanks again Sugarbianca!

Hello Sweething24,

I just wanted to give you a little encouragement regarding your second thoughts. Many of the people I know who were accepted for this term decided to defer because North campus is no longer an option to attend for this May term. I deferred for the same reason. Others are deferring because they are not financially ready to quit their jobs and attend school full time. Everyone has their own personal reasons and even though some say the summer is harder because it is accelerated, its only a difference of 2 weeks. This is a big difference for some and not for others, so again its all relative to your OWN opinion. You will read a ton of posts from students currently in the program and others who have or have not made it through, but the bottom line is YOU have to do the work and make the commitment to put nursing school first and I believe that goes for any program you enter. Some argue that BC is harder than FAU or Nova or FIU or.... But is it that its really harder or is it that the program just focuses on different aspects of nursing and they expect their nursing students to fully comprehend what they are being taught? Could the professors possibly be more polite when they address their students? I'm sure they absolutely could, but I do believe if you just listen and do what they ask of you then you will be fine. I don't believe that every professor is out to get or fail anyone. Many professors can tell which students put in their time studying and which students who don't. I personally make it a point to make sure my challenging course professors know me by first name because when I go to them for additional help I want them to know who I am. I want them to see that I am trying and doing my part to understand what it is they are teaching me. And I have yet to encounter a professor that refused to help me at Broward. Again, I am only speaking for myself.

If you have completed Micro and all the other required courses necessary to graduate and don't mind attending Central or South campus then I say go for it this May! I'm sure you and everyone else starting this program share very similar concerns and fears, including myself. All you can do is your best. I wish you the best of luck and whatever decision you make after orientation I am sure will be the best one for you. ;)

Hi everyone! Congrats on everyone being accepted for May 2012! I just got my acceptance for may 2012 too. At first I was denied but I guess I got one of the alternative seats.. I just have some concerns. I'm due April 21st with my first baby and school starts may 8th or so. I don't know if I should defer or take the opportunity and start the program. As an alternative do I have the option to defer till August? I was planning to bond with my baby this summer. Cause I had somewhat given up on nursing since I've been rejected twice. But now that I got in I'm excited but also somewhat scared and nervous and everything in between. Advice on what I should do please?? I'm freaking out.. Thanks...

Wow, Congrats! Will you have support with your child while your in school? You might be able to design your class schedule according to what makes it easier for you to be with your child at a consistent time, for example, Monday thur Friday from 8am-1pm and you have the rest of day to study and nurse your child. Also, as an alternative, would you be comfortable taking your first semester online since it will not require on-site clinicals? Since your were denied before I, personally, would not want to defer...unless you have a support system in place to help with sitting. If not, I would ask if you would eligible to defer your seat since you were denied before receiving the acceptance. Hopefully someone is able to give you light on your decision. I wish you the best in your decision; and congrats to you again.

@juliansmom2011 -Thanks for the advice! I think Monday I will call and ask some questions about if I'm able to defer or not. I will have some help. I have my husband and other family members. I have a feeling I will start this may however, Im still scared of the thought of starting the program so soon after giving birth. My husband is trying to motivate me to go ahead and do it and I know he'll be there to support me all the way.. I guess I'm just worried that it's going to be really hard with a new baby...thanks for making me feel a little be better about this whole ordeal :)

Hi Hope2bPIcuRn

I really appreciate your advice. I think I am going to take my chance and start the program in may, I will be attending south campus since i live in miami. just thinking about that blue scrub i will be wearing make me excited. I work full time but i don't want to quit my job yet cause I am a single mother of one who s husband is in prison. I don't know how I will support myself because my friends told me that once you are in the program you can't work or if you do it has to be part time. but I see the classes are in the morning so I think I could still be working while in school. What s your advice on that ?

Thanks your advice make me feel better
