Published

Hi I would like to apply for the generic May 2012 entry nursing program at Broward college. Any one else looking into applying for this program. Let's help each other out in this process. I know it's a bit early but I'm excited !!!:)

For all of us who defered till August, when do you plan to do the certifications and take your shots?

I already did all my certifications and started the Hep B series. I'll do the rest of the titers in july.

Hi

Guys, I am planning on attending south campus and I see all the available seat are almost gone. People who were accepted earlier already registered. I am freaking out cause, when few seats left , I won't have no choice but to the the horrible teachers. Gosh I hate that. It s so hard to looking at the class that you want and can't register until you have the green light

I remember in oreintation they said to not do some of the shots because they only last a year or something like that. Where did you get your certifications? Do you have any recomendations on where to get the Hep B shots? I don't have insurance.

I already completed my certifications at Sheridan Tech and I will complete the titers when I receive the medical records form at the next orientation for August. I had my appointment scheduled for the following Monday after orientation, but cancelled it once I gave the paperwork back. I also do not have insurance so I'll be completing the medical form at Broward Community & Family Health Center. There are locations in Hollywood, West Park, and Pompano Beach. They do provide discounted rates for those with low income so you may want to see if you qualify. Website is bcfhc.org.

As a current BC student and a mother (I'm in Ortho/Neuro), all I can say is defer, defer, defer! It will be hard enough to be in the program with a four month old, pretty much impossible with a newborn. I entered the program with a 4.0 and it took all of my focus and energy to pass, especially in the beginning. I have seen incredibly smart people flunk out because they were distracted by life events. You only have one chance. Make sure you are able to give it your best shot. If you graduate four months later, it won't make that much of a difference in the long term. In the meantime, buy Perry and Potter and the modules for process 1. Read and highlight the book. You will be so happy you did once the program starts. If you aren't strong in math, take the math prep class. Good luck!

Hello Backinschool!

May I ask what campus you are currently attending? I decided to defer due to North campus not being offered this May and want to get a head start on the reading after finals in May. I will be purchasing the Perry Potter books, but also want to make sure a newer edition will not be required for the August term. Do you think its safe to buy the books in May or should I try to obtain a new book list? I have the same question about the modules, should I be purchasing them so far in advance? Also, do you know how far in advance I can register for the math prep class? I figured the practice wouldn't hurt. ;)

Sorry for all the questions and appreciate your help!

I am in the program now and have 4 classes left. The biggest piece of advice I can give you is to not listen to what all of the students have to say about how you should study, how difficult a course or teacher is. It forces you to walk into something new with preconceived notions and does not allow you figure it out yourself. Everyone will study differently and learn differently. It will be up to you to figure out what works for you. In reality, there is no way to know until you go through the first course. I had to change the way I studied a couple of times before I figured it out. I highly suggest taking Italia Folleco's SLS course before entering the program at North Campus. It will help to prepare you for studying and test taking. Trust me this style of test taking is an entirely different concept from your typical test taking. You will feel overwhelmed at first, but once you figure out a study plan it gets easier. I would not suggest working full time. You could work part time a lot of students do. Part time work that is flexible is best so you can add and cut hours as your course load permits. Feel free to ask me questions if you have any. I was in your shoes at one point! I will do my best to answer them when I have a free minute.

Congrats! You made it! :w00t:

The background check and drug test have to be repeated yearly, not sure about the shots. Hep B is a 3 series so I started it, take then next one in a month, then the last one 6 months after that. I got mine at Broward Community & Family Health Center in Ft Lauderdale, it was $45, I was told that the one in Hollywood only does prenatal and child care checks. When I have to do the titers I will somewhere else, that I'm told is the cheapest, about $130 for all the titers. I'll let you know when I confirm, I don't have insurance either.

I know people who've been able to get overrides done by a health Science advisor and got into the class, so you could try that.

I found some classes being offered at the cpr florida offices in west palm and Ft. Lauderdale for $65 in March and April. http://www.prestoregister.com/cgi-bin/order.pl?ref=cprflorida&fm=1

My status changed last week from "not accepted-seats available" to "pre admission" My session is on March 29...im overly excited:w00t:I am choosing not to defer my seat.... hopefully I will get everything done in time. If anyone knows of any books I can get now to start studying..please let me know. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! For the mean time, Ill brush up on the skills we learned in HSC and some math. :)
