Published

Hi I would like to apply for the generic May 2012 entry nursing program at Broward college. Any one else looking into applying for this program. Let's help each other out in this process. I know it's a bit early but I'm excited !!!:)

My status changed last week from "not accepted-seats available" to "pre admission" My session is on March 29...im overly excited:w00t:I am choosing not to defer my seat.... hopefully I will get everything done in time. If anyone knows of any books I can get now to start studying..please let me know. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! For the mean time, Ill brush up on the skills we learned in HSC and some math. :)

Congrats!! Somewhere in this thread there is a list of books and a few posts with advice from present nursing students.

Me too!! I was so excited! I got pretty much everything out of the way. I got my PPD(tb) done yesterday so they're gonna look at it tomorrow. The only thing I need done is the BLS class, which I'm taking next week with Cpr Florida. I'm excited about orientation next week! Good luck with getting everything done! :)

I already completed my certifications at Sheridan Tech and I will complete the titers when I receive the medical records form at the next orientation for August. I had my appointment scheduled for the following Monday after orientation, but cancelled it once I gave the paperwork back. I also do not have insurance so I'll be completing the medical form at Broward Community & Family Health Center. There are locations in Hollywood, West Park, and Pompano Beach. They do provide discounted rates for those with low income so you may want to see if you qualify. Website is bcfhc.org.

Thank you Hope, I appreciate the info. I remember asking at orientation if we can start the certifications and shots even if we defer to August and she said not until I get closer to the August semester. But if it's just because of the background check and drug test I'm going to get started on the other stuff.

I am in the program now and have 4 classes left. The biggest piece of advice I can give you is to not listen to what all of the students have to say about how you should study, how difficult a course or teacher is. It forces you to walk into something new with preconceived notions and does not allow you figure it out yourself. Everyone will study differently and learn differently. It will be up to you to figure out what works for you. In reality, there is no way to know until you go through the first course. I had to change the way I studied a couple of times before I figured it out. I highly suggest taking Italia Folleco's SLS course before entering the program at North Campus. It will help to prepare you for studying and test taking. Trust me this style of test taking is an entirely different concept from your typical test taking. You will feel overwhelmed at first, but once you figure out a study plan it gets easier. I would not suggest working full time. You could work part time a lot of students do. Part time work that is flexible is best so you can add and cut hours as your course load permits. Feel free to ask me questions if you have any. I was in your shoes at one point! I will do my best to answer them when I have a free minute.

Congrats! You made it! :w00t:

That's the best thing I've read so far. I really don't want to do this without a part time job but the comments on some of the threads and even the instructors in the orientation was very discouraging. They basically said no job because we would have to spend at least a 100 hours a week of studying and classes in order to pass.

The background check and drug test have to be repeated yearly, not sure about the shots. Hep B is a 3 series so I started it, take then next one in a month, then the last one 6 months after that. I got mine at Broward Community & Family Health Center in Ft Lauderdale, it was $45, I was told that the one in Hollywood only does prenatal and child care checks. When I have to do the titers I will somewhere else, that I'm told is the cheapest, about $130 for all the titers. I'll let you know when I confirm, I don't have insurance either.

Thanks. Keep me updated. I want to start before I start micro biology in May. The good news is that I know a nurse practitioner who will do the physical and sign off for me at no charge.

"Doctors 365" Plantation. 954 577 0001.

Physical: $30

PPD: $12

Varicella titer: $27

MMR titer: $60

Thank you. I'm going to look into this office.

So, just got my pre admission status? I thought I had been declined so I never went on my BC email and for some reason I checked and it says pre admission!!!

Congrats LovelyB!!! A lot of people deferred till August so they went back to select additional applicants. One of my friends who was also denied just recently got accepted and will be attending orientation on March 29th. Very excited for you and all the others that were accepted! :yeah:

Thank you, I have a few questions about everything.. I'm kinda nervous lol how do we pick where we take classes at, and when it says pre admission that means for sure I'm in.. Right? They sent me an email and everything

@lovelyb yes it does. i got the same thing. is your orientation on march 29th?
