Hi I would like to apply for the generic May 2012 entry nursing program at Broward college. Any one else looking into applying for this program. Let's help each other out in this process. I know it's a bit early but I'm excited !!!:)
You are absolutely right. I'm just letting my fears get in the way of my dreams. I think I will start in May and give it my all!! Thanks!! :)Since you applied before and had the intension to begin in May 2012...I (personally) will not pass the opportunity to get the hardest part out of the way before you begin your 12 hour on-site clinicals plus in-class assignments. Whatever your choice is, it will work out according to how you feel; and remember all is possible.
Hi Hope2bPIcuRnI really appreciate your advice. I think I am going to take my chance and start the program in may, I will be attending south campus since i live in miami. just thinking about that blue scrub i will be wearing make me excited. I work full time but i don't want to quit my job yet cause I am a single mother of one who s husband is in prison. I don't know how I will support myself because my friends told me that once you are in the program you can't work or if you do it has to be part time. but I see the classes are in the morning so I think I could still be working while in school. What s your advice on that ?
Thanks your advice make me feel better
I'm happy I was able to make you feel a little better. As for the financial side of things... Financial Aid is going to be your best friend till you graduate. You should be eligible for grants and loans since you have a child and will be unable to work. I know a lot of people, including myself, hate to take out loans, but its really your only option to help pay your bills while you are in school full-time. Its highly recommended that you don't work while attending any nursing program so if you can stay away from working that would be better. You may want to look into Workforce 1 as well. It's a government funded program that helps pay for those who qualify towards a degree and Broward College's RN program is on their list. You have to make under a certain amount per year and fill out a lot of paperwork, but if you qualify it is well worth the hassle. Look into it because you never know, you might be eligible and it could really help reduce the amount of loans you need to take out. Hope I was able to help. :)
As a current BC student and a mother (I'm in Ortho/Neuro), all I can say is defer, defer, defer! It will be hard enough to be in the program with a four month old, pretty much impossible with a newborn. I entered the program with a 4.0 and it took all of my focus and energy to pass, especially in the beginning. I have seen incredibly smart people flunk out because they were distracted by life events. You only have one chance. Make sure you are able to give it your best shot. If you graduate four months later, it won't make that much of a difference in the long term. In the meantime, buy Perry and Potter and the modules for process 1. Read and highlight the book. You will be so happy you did once the program starts. If you aren't strong in math, take the math prep class. Good luck!

The BLS is for health care providers. That is the one we need for the nursing program. BC accepts BLS cards obtained from instructors affiliated with the American Heart Association or the Red Cross. (http://www.broward.edu/images/ProgramSheets/2127.pdf )
You can go directly to either organization's website and see course schedules and contact the instructor to find out how much the cost of the class is.

I was in HOSA in high school and received a waiver for the HCP0001 course. Now, I see that they require it on the checklist. I'm not sure if they only waived the requirement for the application and not for the documents we need to complete by April. Anyone else in the same boat as me and able to shed some light?
