Broward College May 2016 RN program

Published

Just wanted to start a thread for Broward's May '16 RN program! I'm finishing up my application process this week.

My hesi was a 87% overall, with 90's in Math, Reading, and Vocabulary, an 84% in grammar, and a 80% in AP.

My prerequisite GPA is a 4.0

Hey Nicole! Quick question, is there a date as to when August applicants will hear about decisions yet?

We anticipate decisions going out for August toward the end of May. :)

I use Maryann hogan nursing fundamentals reviews and rationales 3rd edition and 7th edition of the Jarvis. I bought my shoes at footlocker white adidas, as long as they are all white and don't have mesh. All "leather" will be fine the no mesh is just in case something spills on your feet it won't seep through. In north The professors will check everyone's uniforms.

Thank you sooooooo much :)

One more thing...

Please do not email me asking if I have received your confirmation for the RN or transition program. The college was closed last week for Spring Break. I came back to 400+ emails in my inbox. I am working through the emails and will respond to everyone before the end of the week.

If you do not receive a response back from me confirming I have received your email after FRIDAY, you can check back with me.

Just found a nice pair of shoes at Payless, on sale for $17.00.

Champion brand, no logo, "leather", all white, no slip.

They have a few other brands, but I find the champion brand is the most durable they sell.

(I torture the champion sneakers i use at work!)

Hi which Payless was this that you found them?

Make sure they are comfortable or get a gel insole. I'm in clinicals at the hospital and after 12 hours my feet are on fire! Im not used to that. But If you are used to being on your feet all day it will be fine.

Hello everyone! I start process 2 On wed and after Reading all this posts it reminded me that just a few months ago I was in your shoes. My suggestion Is to get The perry and potter fundamentals book, and jarvis. Those are the main ones i used. I would also get The nursing fundamentals by MARYANN HOGAN. That one Is a detail outline of most of what you Will see in process 1 and 2 Watch nursing physical assesments, on YouTube this Will give you an idea Of How It would be. Each lab instructor has Their own way of doing things so those videos are just for reference. Practice vitals specially the 2 step blood pressure. When I started the program I had a small group I would meet with but I soon realized that it was not for me, just a waste of time. read the chapters read the Mary Ann hogan book listen to the lectures and practice nclex questions on the topic you are on. As long as you practice and practice your skills in the lab with a partner and read you will do fine. I go to north campus, it is very challenging but up until now I love it! All the teachers for process 1 and 2 are great! I just pray that will continue. And btw you do no need to have a 3.0 or above to be a great nurse you just have to study and be eager to learn. A lab instructor once told me she was a C student in nursing school and look at where she is now, she is one of the best instructors We have.

Hi! Congrats on your nursing school success so far. Would you mind posting a reading list for each exam for process 1? I've found a few but they're all different. I'm assuming nursing process, safety, hygiene and vital signs plus a few other chapters ?

I have 1 more question what white shoes do you have now in the program? There's a lot of post of what the shoes can't be so I figured I'd ask a person whose in the program what shoes they have and what's ok

You have to wear an all white shoe with no logo (at least not a predominant one like the Nike check mark) and no mesh. It has to be easy to clean.

There was a debate on rubber ones because they don't bend. I got the rubber scrub zones from all heart and both north campus professors approved them. They are affordable, comfortable for 12 hour clinical and best of all easy to clean with bleach

Start with vitals & health assessment. Your exams will have a different breakdown of chapters than ours because your course is only 6 weeks. I recommend reading each chapter (shoot for like 1 ch. a week) until you start and highlight the main topics so you have base knowledge when you listen to the lecture. Record the lectures!!! This post has the reading list for north campus:
