Just wanted to start a thread for Broward's May '16 RN program! I'm finishing up my application process this week.
My hesi was a 87% overall, with 90's in Math, Reading, and Vocabulary, an 84% in grammar, and a 80% in AP.
My prerequisite GPA is a 4.0
Hello everyone! I start process 2 On wed and after Reading all this posts it reminded me that just a few months ago I was in your shoes. My suggestion Is to get The perry and potter fundamentals book, and jarvis. Those are the main ones i used. I would also get The nursing fundamentals by MARYANN HOGAN. That one Is a detail outline of most of what you Will see in process 1 and 2 Watch nursing physical assesments, on YouTube this Will give you an idea Of How It would be. Each lab instructor has Their own way of doing things so those videos are just for reference. Practice vitals specially the 2 step blood pressure. When I started the program I had a small group I would meet with but I soon realized that it was not for me, just a waste of time. read the chapters read the Mary Ann hogan book listen to the lectures and practice nclex questions on the topic you are on. As long as you practice and practice your skills in the lab with a partner and read you will do fine. I go to north campus, it is very challenging but up until now I love it! All the teachers for process 1 and 2 are great! I just pray that will continue. And btw you do no need to have a 3.0 or above to be a great nurse you just have to study and be eager to learn. A lab instructor once told me she was a C student in nursing school and look at where she is now, she is one of the best instructors We have.
Thanks for the insight and heads up. Which edition of jarvis? Also which MaryAnn Hogan would you recommend? I went on amazon and there was one that said nursing fundamentals reviews and rationales and another that says comprehensive NCLEX RN review. Which one do you use?
Good morning!
For those of you who attend BC right now, I hope you enjoyed your Spring Break. Now that we are back, I have a few things to clear up.
* Not everyone was accepted into the May term. It is a LIMITED ACCESS PROGRAM, meaning we have a limited amount of seats. Decisions were based on pre-requisite GPA (along with HESI scores as a secondary measure). Students who were invited to join the program had between 6 and 16 points. Alternates had 5 points.
Emails have gone out to everyone explaining the statuses.
* For those applicants who were not selected (between 1 and 4 points), your application will be moved to the August 2016 application pool for consideration.
* For those applicants who were invited to join the RN program, either as a provisionally accepted student or an alternate, please do not email to change your time for the meeting. The meetings are both at full capacity and we cannot change students from the 9am or 1pm meetings.
* Please DO NOT COMPLETE ANY PAPERWORK prior to the pre-admissions session. If you do, and you complete it wrong, you will be required to redo the paperwork that is incorrectly completed. We will go over everything that needs to be done during the pre-admissions session.
* When you applied to the RN program, you applied to the program itself not a particular campus. So if you have been invited, and you turned in your application on North or Central (since those are the only two campuses we have Health Science Admissions offices), it does NOT mean that you are guaranteed a seat on those campuses. We will go over registration procedures during the pre-admissions session.
* There is no set dress code for the pre-admissions meeting. However, please be presentable. No short skirts or shorts, no low cut tops, no pajamas, etc.
Happy Monday!!
Yes, she applied in the beginning of January because she finished Microbiology in December. She sent for her high school transcript and her PBSC transcript right away. In the beginning of February she was told her PBSC transcript wasn't updated when they sent it and it didn't include microbio. So she sent it again, the updated version. Then last Monday she was told her high school transcript wasn't received. So she went there on Thursday (because she works all week and Thursday was her day off) and gave them the transcript.
High school transcripts are not required for admission. Decisions were based on GPA and HESI scores. If she has any questions, she can contact us at [email protected]
Sorry, Jarvis physical examination pocket companion book. I believe the summer term is 6 weeks and it will be a lot of information. It's best to start from now.
I have 1 more question what white shoes do you have now in the program? There's a lot of post of what the shoes can't be so I figured I'd ask a person whose in the program what shoes they have and what's ok
Is it recommended / or even acceptable to bring your spouse to the pre-admission meeting? I wasn't sure if seating is limited.
Honestly, it is not recommended because of the space limitation. What normally happens is we ask all guests to wait outside until all of our students are seated. If there are seats available after, then we can invite the guests in.
I use Maryann hogan nursing fundamentals reviews and rationales 3rd edition and 7th edition of the Jarvis. I bought my shoes at footlocker white adidas, as long as they are all white and don't have mesh. All "leather" will be fine the no mesh is just in case something spills on your feet it won't seep through. In north The professors will check everyone's uniforms.
