Brookhaven Nursing Spring 2016

Published

This forum is for anyone applying to the nursing program at Brookhaven College for the spring 2016 semester.

I will be applying for the spring semester and would like to meets others who are applying as well.

I didn't get into El CEntro/Northlake my first time because I didn't send them my complete immunization record. I would recommend see an advisor to make sure you have everything you need. I applied this time around with about 27 or 28 points.

I didn't know about Northlake's program. I have all my eggs in this basket. Hopefully 26.83 will be enough. I don't have enough support classes for El Centro to even be competitive.

I am sure you will get the interview. 26.83 is great... congrats!

Praying for us all!

Praying and hoping with y'all. Am still stuck on brookhaven's program though. If I don't make it this time, I will apply again for fall. 16 months is quite attractive compared to 24 months

Welcome annaberedden, who do you know in the Fall 2015 class? I've met a couple of them and I'm in their FB group soaking in as much info as possible from them. This week is going to fly by (I hope). I'm terrible at interviews, I freeze. Hopefully I'll do ok if I get chosen. Good luck to you, and those of you with 24 points are pretty competitive in my opinion.

I agree the 16 months is what got me! I'm quitting my job whenever I get in so the least time without a paycheck the better.

Exactly the same senario here. I will be quitting my job too and anything I can do to shorten that time is a winner.

mlank81011, what are they saying about the program, do they have any pointers or advice for future nurses like us getting started? I would hate to get in the program only to get kicked out, or drop.....I hear alot of people end up dropping out. Is there something that we can do to better prepare us?

I guess we will be a bunch of broke students for a little bit. Am already starting to get frugal with everything just to save the last penny.

I plan to continue working throughout the program, IF accepted

Another day closer, guys!!!!! What a nerve wrecking week...

I'll be dropping from FT down to PRN. I'll try to pick up as many shifts as possible, but won't be obligated to work if I have a have a heavier school load some weeks. Luckily on slow days at my job, we can get some studying done!

It is VERY stressful, I was told to start preparing, like buying my shoes, rolling backpack, all the stuff that adds up is CRAZY. There are so many hidden costs that you don't find out about until success camp. They are given so much material to read, the quizzes and tests are stressful as well because they aren't really specific on what part of the material you will be tested on so you need to soak it all in. It's good to find study groups to break up the material with and practice on, then you can all share your notes etc. They just started clinicals last week. The first few weeks were pre-clinicals, you get checked off on some of you skills like phycial assessments and foley catheters etc so you should be able to do SOME things when you start clinicals. They are starting to do care plans now, I hear those REALLY suck. I'm excited but SCARED TO DEATH all at the same time. lol

Where are they doing their clinical rotations at?
