Brookhaven Fall 2010

Published

Hi everyone. I just turned in my application for the THIRD time this morning! I'm really hoping that third time's a charm. Has anyone turned in their application yet?

OMG...You're right! I wonder what prompted them to do this? Maybe they're going to go back to the face-to-face instead? I don't know?

The only reason that I thought to look is because some girl that I met in class last semester emailed me and told me that they didn't except her application because her HESI score was three years old and in the past that was ok. She didn't realize that it was changed to two years.

holly,

Honestly, I think youve got enough points to get in for fall...I on the otherhand, have to get these classes out of the way and possibly retake my hesi ( I only made an 88.23) So I have to bring up that score if I'm going to compete without those 3 points next time, because I honestly do not think 29.23 will be enough!

My HESI was an 89.78. If you don't get the points then no one else with either so essentially everyone's score should be down. I don't know what is good enough to get in or not but if the three points were available last time and the lowest was 31.23 points I would think 28.23 would then be the lowest. I don't know for sure just my two cents. For End of Life I had to do what others said and that was to put it in my degree plan and then go back and log in early so that right at 8am I could register.

Holly,

*** just got back to me and she said..

The Dean and faculty have decided to do away with the three point eligibility for re-applying.

So, there's our answer to the dilemma about the 3 points not being in effect for the future application periods!

Wow that is crazy. Thanks for the update. You don't happen to know how many people applied do you?

honestly, No! But I've heard that sometimes 200-300 apply per application period?? I could be wrong but I don't even think she had half as many apply as she did last period.

Wow! I honestly think it's more far without the 3 points. Because when I applied for the first time with all classes complete except End of Life - I read that so many people were applying when they were not ready just to get those extra points... which puts them ahead later on. But oh well I guess. I think that taking away the 3 points will make it more far for all of us. Meaning - people who aren't ready won't apply until they are really ready.

I have tried to register for End of Life Issues for the last two semesters as well. My problem is that I am not a DCCCD student so I can't register early. I have to do that late registration. (I do have a degree plan on file, but that doesn't allow me to register). I took a class in the summer hoping that would grant me access to register in the fall. Turns out you have to take a class in a regular fall or spring term before you are eligible to register early. Sucks for non DCCCD students!

I know exactly what you mean, but Brookhaven told me to look and see if end of life is offered at TCC or TWU and they'll accept it, so this might be an avenue you might explore!

as stated in the terms of service:

while it is important to be able to network, everyone should be mindful of the following:

  1. it is a small world - when we narrow it down to a state and throw in some personal info, there is actually a pretty good chance someone may recognize you if you are not careful. your privacy is paramount to us.
  2. while allnurses.com is a wonderful place to vent (without excess personally identifiable details) it is not the place to express why ("x" specific person, place or program) is terrible. gripe away, but since we cannot permit allegations to be made about named entities, your care in not naming them is very much appreciated.
  3. please do not give out personal information about others. do not name names where anyone could identify the person in any facility including your nursing programs.

thank you for your cooperation.

I've checked other DCCCD schools for an end of life with no luck.

I'm going to check TCC and TWU to see if they offer a class.

I've tried registering for it at 8am with no luck.

I really wish they would make the class available online and increase the total students who can register for it.

I know, it'd be so much easier if it were online!! I am not looking forward to this class!! You have to volunteer and go to a graveyard and give a presentation!! For a class that's only worth 1 or 2 credits, it sure is an inconvenience!!
