Breastfeeding

HI! I am currently in my mat rotation and i am wondering if anyone knows any websites or other great resources for teaching new moms breastfeeding and baby baths and stuff. I am mostly interested in pt teaching regarding breastfeeding, as this is very important. Thanks in advance once again for all your help! Y'all ROCK!

Does the le leche league have a website? I'm too lazy to look this morning, but they have alot of good info.

"What to expect when you're expecting" and "What to expect the first year" are the best books I have ever seen on all the new mommy stuff (written by 2 RN's :))

Also, in BC they give out free copies of "Babys' Best Chance" at pharmacies, etc. As a student I believe you can get one as well.

A *really* great website for all aspects of breastfeeding is http://www.kellymom.com I am still breastfeeding my youngest daughter and in school.

Good books are Le Leache Leagues like she mentioned above and they do have a website. They are the best support for moms who are pregnant and planning to breastfeeding and we have monthly meetings and playgroups for breastfeeding moms (I am a member and that is where I have met all my "mom" friends). Dr Sears the Breastfeeding Book is really good.

The best all around baby care type book I think is also by Dr Sears called The Baby Book.

I'm glad you are asking about this! A lot of times nurses give the WORSE breastfeeding advice and end up ruining a new mothers breastfeeding experience (happened to me with my first child) altogether.

But the best reference I think is http://www.kellymom.com Go to the breastfeeding section and I think it has a section on there called the first weeks or something like that. Its an excellent site, I cant recommend it enough.

vegas . . . . I see where you are headed but to be fair, where else would you actually get knowledgable advice but these great nurses all ALLNURSES! Google would just give lots of websites without any way to know which one was good or not.

I think it is great that students come here trusting us for advice.

No, I should have clarified a little bit. We have had some really bad argumentative closed threads on breastfeeding in the past, believe it or not. I know some of us are trying to be good and not post faces and "oh no!!" kind of things, because it would seem silly to those who weren't around when the two big controversial breastfeeding threads were here.
