Boston Med-new TV show, will you be watching?

Nurses General Nursing

Published

i keep seeing previews for this new show starting tonight on abc. i'm hoping it includes some great nurses rather then just focusing on the physicians. what do you guys think?

I'm watching it now. Yes, it is more doctor focused, and I saw that Dr Patil on TV this morning talking about it. They are calling it the "real Grey's Anatomy". I can def relate, especially that code situation that was ran poorly.

I will be going to work asking all the residents I work with if they watched it.

I will interested in watching NICU on Discovery Health next month. Never been interested in NICU, but I'm interested in seeing how the nurses do their jobs.

Specializes in ICU.

Apparently Boston Medical functions without RNs!

It'd be nice if they marketed the show as just about resident/attendings, but ABC's synopsis actually says "caregivers," and "unforgettable stories of doctors, nurses and patients are adeptly woven..." I did not see one nurse on the show besides walking by in the background.

Specializes in LDRP.

This series has been on before-in different hospitals. I've always liked it, and if I recall correctly, its always been more focused on the residents and telling their stories-personal and professional. I remeber one that was done in Houston (Houston Medical, also a summer series/documentary) on ABC--one of the residents they featured on there found out she had a malignant brain tumor during her residency and talked about her being the patient and the doctor. It was really good. I like this one so far. Dr patel seems real-she tries hard, but doesn't always succeed.

haha totally agree. that was one of the main reasons i was eager to watch the show. they said nurses also.. oh well... i still thought the show was pretty good

Specializes in Med/Tele, Home Health, Case Management.

I never heard about it but saw it on tv tonight. Unfortunately, I only saw the last few minutes, but it looked realistic, and not like a "reality show". It's something I will watch again.

Specializes in Critical Care.
I am def watching it tonight. From previews looks more Dr. oriented, as most med shows are . Discovery Health has a new show "NICU" starting July 15th. Looks good too and seems to be more nurse oriented.

Thanks for the info! Ah, yet another reason I wish I got Discovery Health. Their trauma show is really good too. My neighbor's dream job is in NICU and she gets this channel, so I'll be sure to let her know about this show.

Specializes in OR-ortho, neuro, trauma.

I thought it was pretty good. I hope in the coming weeks they actually feature some nurses like the description says it will.

the only reason i watched it, was r/t living in boston and being very familiar with these hospitals.

the ONLY thing that struck me, was when they showed the rooftop of mass general, it said MHG, and not the MGH we all know it as.

wth...MHG??? what's up with that?:)

otherwise, it was predictably, physician-focused.

btw, both are great, great hospitals.

leslie

Leslie, I caught that too..I was wondering which hospital it was...because the only hospital that popped up in my mind was Mass Gen.

I enjoyed the show. Though I would love to see more nurses, I think the perspective of the show is different and interesting.

This episode show Mass General and Brigham and Women's Hospital. It also said it would show Children's in future episodes.

The MHG is the helicopter landing pad designation. Most landing pads are identified that way, as the H standing out as Hospital, so the insignia would stand for Hospital, Mass General.

I thought they did a pretty good depiction of some RN's tonight.....Good Show, keeps me watching.
