NEW RN ADVICE
that's what i figured. it prob wont be a major decision maker cuz if i really needed that wouldn't a hospital just hire me and than require me to get that certification? it's not like it takes years to get ACLs, u know what i mean... thanks! and i been applying like crazy to other hospitals, i think this is just not a good time since i live in philadelphia and there are alot of nursing programs and alot of new nurses looking for jobs.. i'll just have to have patience but still try my best to apply all over

NEW RN ADVICE
I recently passed the boards! but now am jobless I work as a NA at a small county hospital on a med surg floor and there is no opening for a new RN and none in sight anytime soon. I was reading on a couple threads that getting further certifications is a great way to spend this extra "free" time i have. My hospital has ACLS classes being offered in October. It is now August. The classes are expensive from what I've seen but free for me since I am am employee. My problem is should I wait till October when I can take them at my hospital, or should i take them now and spend the money with the slight chance I may be able to get a job before that? ugh decisions, decisions.

What does patient care mean to you?
to me patient care means being there for a patient when they are most vulnerable. You are there for a patient when they are scared, happy, nervous, confused, and stressed. You offer support and courage as well as medical care. To me patient care means knowing once I leave the hospital, whether all I did was wipe sweat off a patients head or give CPR, I made a difference in their life during a difficult time. I think as nurses we are lucky to be able to provide care and anyone would be lucky to do what we do. Our job comes with alot of stress, and we are special people who take on this task and enjoy it.

failed nclex, what DIDN'T you do the 1st time?
I tried to search this but didn't come across any topic which related to my exact question... sooo... My question/comment is: I am taking the Nclex for the first time in 2 1/2 weeks. I enrolled in Kaplan and have been doing questions not only from Kaplan but also other sources. I do try to focus on content as well but I feel like sitting down and memorizing ALOT of information may not work for me and I might feel overwhelmed. I have heard doing questions is a great way to understand how to apply the material. So I guess let me get to the point lol.... my question is.... For anyone who did not pass on their first attempt, or for anyone who knows someone who didn't pass, do you have any advice? What didn't you do the first time that you wish you had? I know alot of people who pass the first time have offered great advice, but I wanted the prespective of someone who may not have succeeded and realized something they were missing. My hope is that I can learn something from you so that I know I am trying everything to pass. THANKS!!!

Can I get a CNA while I go to nursing school?
i work as a nursing assistant, but not a certified one and was able to keep the job even after graduating nursing school. I've heard that once you graduate you cannot work as a CNA while u try to find a job or are studying for your boards. But i never thought that made sense. They say you can only work as what you are certifed in, well until you take your boards your not certified in anything besides being a CNA right? But than again i'm not sure... so i guess I would check on that..
