Bonus for extra shifts: what are your facilities doing for you?

This hospital had a summer long-extended to December policy that if you pre-aprove a w/e shift by thursday you get $50.00per4hour shift worked on top of the contract extra w/e bonus. Worked well for some but the rest of us who got called in at the last minute missed out so, like me, we who were not willing to commit until last minute just said no becuz this is so not fair. Well, as of 12/15 and due to such a severe crisis here in the Twin Cities this hospital now sais anyone asked to work extra shifts on the w/e will get bonus!! Yeah-they finally listened to us "last minute sure I'll come in for a shift" people!! What is your facilty doing to entise extra shifts?

;) If it is a really critical need (determined by nurse manager) we get $10.00 more an hour plus the over time if applicable. Sometimes I will be asked to work extra and be offered the $10.00 and sometimes the extra money is not offered. Whether I accept to work just depends on my state of mind at the time. Sometimes I say I will work but only for the extra money. If they don't want to pay extra then I won't work extra.

Right before Christmas my hospital instituted a new program that if you work over your commitment you get $7.00/hr more plus time and 1/2 if you're full time. The kicker is all the part timers and per diems are to asked first so the full timers usually get sh-t on as usual. Our per diems already make 30/hr and sometimes more depending on how many units they will work. Full timers will be lucky if we ever see it.

Day shift in the ER gets a $150 bonus for every 24 hours worked over their FTE. Nights got some % of bonus, which was greater than the $150, since nights are shorter. But...we just had all of our bonuses pulled, and now we get nothing for extra hours worked. So...guess what? No one is signing up for anymore extra hours, and mgmt has said they won't hire agency to cover them either. :(

Closes yor eyes and tell me what you see. Thats what we get, the exact same thing we get for working weekends.

if you work every weekend for 4months, you get paid $33.00/hr plus weekend shift differential. The nurses working night shift are really cleaning up!

Last night I found out our facility is taking this approach. Instead of a bonus for working overtime, we will now get $150.00 bonus if you show up to work ALL days that you are scheduled in a quarter.

It's a shame we have to bribe people to come to work when they are suposed to but let's face it that is were most of our staffing problems are generated from at my place.

Interesting some one figured out that after withholdings we would only pocket about $100.00. Seemed less impressive especially since with my tax withholdings it will be even less.

Earlier it was proposed a $100.00 bonus for overtime, but I guess that did not fly.

My facility doesnt offer any bonus to pick up. They do bring in agency to cover when we are short. Staff has purposed that they give us even a couple dollars per hr that we pick up or even a couple hrs personal time to pick up but i guess they would rather pay agency. Agency nurses are wonderful and we appreciate them though we do resent administration for choosing them over us..

Nope, no extra time bonuses here...and if it isn't over 40 hours, you work for straight time. And when we were so horribly short over the summers we found out that the regular floors and almost every other ICU was getting a bonus for working extra, but not us. Thanks a lot to our manager!

I work in a nursing home. If you work a shift on your weekend off you get a $50 bonus. During the week if you work an extra shift you get a $30 bonus. Anything over 40 hours we get double time. Just picking up on your off Saturday or Sunday makes for a nice difference in your paycheck. Since they changed it to double time after 40 hours everyone seems to want to work extra. :)

Weeeeell, that is called "incentive pay" where I work and since I am *PRN* I don't get to sign up, (unless it's for straight time only), even though is IS above and beyond what I am required to work. (and wish to). How do I get around it? I sign up as "oncall" for that shift; if it's not covered and they call me, I get MY Incentive (really "callback" but the money is the same to me, even it's different on their books.). It's time and half. That is all we get for "incentive " to work extra....that is why so many full-timers refuse to sign up if they can help it. Hardly worth the aggravation, exhaustion and worst, the extra time away from one's family. I do NOT blame them! I think it needs to be better0-compensated. And it is your regular staffers who risk burn-out the most so it must be personally weighed carefully as to whether ANY amount of money is worth it!. Maybe as the shortage deepens (and it is) they will ante up. Maybe not. Time will tell.

We get $30.00 for every 4 hrs worked. Floors that are short staffed post their needs in advance and anyone can sign up if they don't mind the shift from hell.
