license by endorsement
I go licensed in MA by endorsement. All I did was go to a place where they take a passport type photo and attach that. I went to a store that sold picture frames and film, and it didn't cost much at all. That was about 8 years ago, but I got 2 pics for pretty cheap and it fit what I needed.

So confused about the job I want.
I just recently went through something similar. I had been working at a job that I dreaded going to everyday. When driving to work my stomach would drop when I saw the building. I had never disliked any of my nursing jobs before, and realized I needed to get out. I started a job in a Primary Care Clinic a few weeks ago, as an LPN. Best decision I ever made. I went from working the weekends and holidays to doing Mon-Fri 8am-5pm. Getting an hour for lunch was something I wasnt used to. I actually didnt know what to do with an hour of free time. At the last job I never took a lunch because it was always so hectic. Was always on my feet from start to finish. I now room pts, and sit at a computer and use the phone most of my shift. If someone needs a flu shot, B12 injection, etc. I give it to them. I enjoy this environment, had only worked in nursing homes for 9 years, so it really was time for a change. Try the Dr.'s office environment, it might be a good change for you. I am no longer stressed at work.

NV LPN Licensure trouble Army Program Grad
Just wanted to add to my post. Nevada did license me a few weeks ago. It was an error on their part. They said that my course was coded incorrectly. When they looked into it further they realized my course was fully qualified. I now have my temporary license. Good thing, because I:m moving to Nevada the first week of September. Now I just need to find a job. :)

I need help!
Sorry to cross-post, but since this is related to NV and licensing i'll post here too. I just got a denial for LPN licensure in NV by the board. I'm army trained and have been licensed in NC (Never practiced there) RI and MA. I applied by endorsement and they are stating that my nursing program isn't accredited. And better yet, how do I get this list of accredited programs from them? Sorry I'm frustrated because I've never had a state turn me down and I have plans to move there. I have no other issues/discipline on my record. Nancy

NV LPN Licensure trouble Army Program Grad
Are there any other army trained lpn's in nevada that are licensed? I graduated from a practical nurse course 300-91c20 back in 97 and have never had a problem getting licensed in NC RI, and MA (where I am currently working). I want to move to NV soon and applied for a NV license by endorsement and they denied me saying the program wasn't accredited Any NV nurses that went through any armed forces nursing programs input appreciated Nancy

Should nurses go back to wearing all white?
I work at a LTC facility that requires nurses to wear all white. I've gotten used to it, and I don't have tons of stains all over my uniforms. Its not that impractical. They just got rid of the caps a few years ago. The residents love that we wear white, they know exactly who the nurses are. Same goes for their families and visitors. We are allowed to wear warm up jackets of any print or color if we choose to, which breaks it up a bit. But not many people do. The cna's wear white pants and blue shirts in the colder months, and green shirts in the warmer months. All of the depts have a specific uniform, which makes it easy to tell who's who. And just because we wear all white doesn't mean it has to be boring. I've found a lot of white scrub tops that have different embroidery or styles that make them different, but still white. I have a lot of print and colored scrubs from my previous jobs, but now I"m glad its just white. It just seems automatic now. I don't mind at all. :)

10/10 pain..venting!
I think Lilgirl has a very good point. People have varying reactions to pain and just because they can appear stoic on the outside doesn't mean their pain is any less and their need for relief from it is any less than the person writhing around in bed with an obvious pained expression.

Bonus for extra shifts: what are your facilities doing for you?
I work in a nursing home. If you work a shift on your weekend off you get a $50 bonus. During the week if you work an extra shift you get a $30 bonus. Anything over 40 hours we get double time. Just picking up on your off Saturday or Sunday makes for a nice difference in your paycheck. Since they changed it to double time after 40 hours everyone seems to want to work extra. :)

Nursing Home Activities
I work in a LTC facility. The activity dept is very good at doing things for the residents everyday of the week. They have bingo every morning, and rosary on Fridays. There is Mass on Wednesdays. At night there is Trivia night, and movie night, and sing a longs. Different musical guests come in and entertain, usually on Fridays. One of the activity aides does nails for the female residents. they have the monthly birthday parties, which everyone loves. Different parties for the holidays. They have a Gong show every year, which is a big hit. a few weeks ago they did a cookie swap, where they baked their own cookies and traded them with staff and other residents. When its time for the Christmas bazaar a lot of the residents make crafts, and help sell raffle tickets. The residents are usually pretty busy. If they aren't in their room you know they're in the activity room. they also have KFC nights, where everyone places their order and they enjoy their chicken with their families and fellow residents. Pizza night is a big hit also. In the summer time some of them go out for ice cream, and others go to restaurants in the area, usually in groups of 10-15. I was surprised when I first started working there, because the residents were well supplied with things to do. At the facility where I used to work the activity dept would go home at 4:30pm, and never work the weekends. where I am now there is someone there until at least 8pm, and they are there every weekend.
