This hospital had a summer long-extended to December policy that if you pre-aprove a w/e shift by thursday you get $50.00per4hour shift worked on top of the contract extra w/e bonus. Worked well for some but the rest of us who got called in at the last minute missed out so, like me, we who were not willing to commit until last minute just said no becuz this is so not fair. Well, as of 12/15 and due to such a severe crisis here in the Twin Cities this hospital now sais anyone asked to work extra shifts on the w/e will get bonus!! Yeah-they finally listened to us "last minute sure I'll come in for a shift" people!! What is your facilty doing to entise extra shifts?

-jt is that time and one half for any extra time worked or onlytime worked passed your shift.e.g. sheduled to work Mon, Tues, and Wed. Usual 3 day week 8hr days, then asked to work extra day.. is that extra day time and one half?

Your right about hosp. admin never learning. We are losing staff to a nearby hosp. where union contract bans mand. ot. Do we have mand ot? you bet plenty of it and admin won't listen. (Unfortuneately oour contract has weak language about mand.ot.

the facility where i work has a program where if you work 32 hrs. you get paid for 40. the catch is that you work double shifts on sat and sun. no holidays and im home all week to be with the kids. but by my last mn shift i am dead tired and afraid of making mistakes or getting killed on the way home. mmmm....after reading my reply i dont know if it is worth it anymore.

If I get called in for an extra shift, it is $7.50/hour more. This is a LTC facility. But the administration just eliminated all overtime, unless it is above the 40 hours in a work week. I am screwed because I am a part time employee and now will not get any overtime, ever, because I do not work 40 hours in a work week. I did get overtime for any work over 8 hours for the first 6 1/2 years I have worked there, this is a new change effective immediately. I was shocked to get the little notice in my paycheck. Happy Holidays! Bah humbug!

we get a free lunch from the cafeteria or coffee shop. 5 bucks! yay!

We have crisis pay ($50/4 hours), and double crisis pay ($100/4 hours(usually w/e's only)). Both are determined and offered by the nursing supervisor. Plus if you're full time then you get time and 1/2 on top of that. I've worked an OT Saturday night shift (8*) c/ double crisis pay a couple of times that turned out to be over $600 before taxes c/ night and w/e differentials. Pretty sweet shift to pick up!

I would like to work a baylor like the post above. Work 32 for forty or 24 for 30. Either way.

As for incentives. We sign up a head of time for OT, for each shift we get time and a half. No additional bonus.

Weekday: 4 hours $25

8 hours $50

12hrs $75

Weekend: 4 hours $50

8 hours $100

12 hrs $150

We also get a weekend differential (for working a non-regularly scheduled weekend) of $35/day.

All this is in addition to any OT pay.

Working an extra weekend is pretty schweeeeeeeeet.

We've been doing this since September of 2000 and have YET to burn out. It's been wonderful during staff shortages...and we love the extra money ;)

Timonrn, where do you work? I didn't think that there were any more hospitals here in the Twin Cities that had contracts due that soon (in May). I haven't been called in for extra shifts since at least last June; and I don't work any extra shifts anymore because it isn't worth it to me. I don't have my contract here or I'd look it up, but I believe that we get $100 bonus for any extra 8hr. weekend shift we work. We have nurses who work Baylor shifts (2 12 hour shifts/ weekend and get paid for 36 hours), nurses who only work 3 8 hour shifts/ every weekend and get paid more, and a group of us work only 1 weekend out of every 3. We also get paid extra (only $1.25/hr) for working our usual weekends.

At the hospital where I work RN's and LVN's earn time and a half for coming in to work an extra shift. CNA's earn a $5/hr bonus for working an extra shift. We work 12 hr shifts; anything over 12 hrs is double time. Staff are not often asked to stay beyond 12hrs. However, bonus shifts are usually available.

Our LTC facility gives $25 extra if we have a big need, and they will tell us in advance--ex., New Year's Eve or X-mas. We're supposed to get a bonus for working our weekend off as well. That's on top of time and a half for regular days and double time for holidays.

Any extra time is an extra $8/hr plus the time and a half.

Our hospital revamped its Nothing-Nada policy. They now pay an extra $5 per hour when you work 4 or more hours beyond your normally scheduled hours.
