Has anyone every heard of this or ever been to an exhibit? I just heard about this tonight through a friend of mine. So I went online to see a picture of it and get some more information on it and my goodness I would love to go to one of these exhibits!
If you have gone to one of this was it as interesting as it sounds?? Do tell!! :typing
My almost 19 y.o. daughter and I saw "Bodies Revealed" today at a local museum. I thought it was very well done but a smaller show than what you see normally. No newborn babies. But there were unborn babies starting at 12 weeks.
I felt like I was a bit jaded though having already done dissection on male and female cadavers in nursing school.
My daughter loved it. I may go back to being a vegetarian though . . . . Just like after anatomy.

From what I understand Body Worlds is the one that obtains bodies from those who bequest them to the company after death. It's the knockoffs that are using prisioners from Taiwan and China.....
I saw Body Worlds....amazing! I had to go by myself as I couldn't convince my husband to go, too.
There was a big controversy here in my area about this - lots of articles and letters to the editor.
Friends of mine and I researched and didn't find anything definitive about using prisoners, etc.
I stalled going for a long time. But then we went yesterday.
I wouldn't take young kids.
But I did take my, at the time, 11 year old son into our dissection theatre with the permission of my instructor and the other students. He was fascinated and is 25 and not an ax murderer yet.

I saw it in both Houston and Dallas, and would go see it again if I had the chance. It was an incredible experience! In Houston, I went with some friends from nursing school. Apparently, they thought that it was pretty funny that the smoker's lung didn't phase me (I smoke), but at the display with the huge enlarged liver, they caught me trying to palpate my own margins (we had gone out for a few drinks the night before).
In Dallas, I took my Mom and the Kiddo. It was really awesome to see him studying the dancer, and getting all teary eyed from emotion (he's also a dancer). My favorite display is the horse with the rider...each time I spent about an hour studying and marveling that one.
As for illegally obtaining the bodies, I've never heard of any controversy with BodyWorld's displays. There is a knockoff show (in Vegas, I think) that has some questionable practices. I've even filled out the card as a potential donor for my body when I'm done with it. Although I would love to be in some cool pose, some kind of hockey player pose..or ones of the poker guys cheating and passing cards....I'll probably end up being immortalized with a casting of my ear or butt.
It was really great. It was very interesting how they got all the bodies in certain positions. I have scoliosis (minor) and I walked by a spine that had it and pointed it out to my boyfriend and said "look, thats what I look like." 3 minutes later another girl came by and said the same exact thing to the person she was with. Then it had smoking lungs and one guy threw down his pack of cigarettes and exclaimed that he was quitting. But the really interesting parts were the bodies. My favorite one was the girl on the beams right above the mirror. It was controversial because most of these people donated their bodies to science and a lot of people thought that this was more art than science. You should definitly check it out.
Oh I want to see it so bad, But Boston is the closet city. And it doesnt look like they are going there anytime soon. So Id have to travel to Maryland to see it. Maybe, Id really love to see it. It sounds extremely interesting. Just reading about it fascinates me.I can imagine it being controversial. But Its Science. So what isn't?
But If I can get the chance to go, im definetly going!! Thanks for your input!! :):)

I saw the exhibit when it was in Minneapolis. It was amazing!
The controversy was about a tour that wasn't by the name of Body Worlds. http://www.bodyworlds.com has a lot of interesting information on the tour.
