Binghamton BAT 2021-2022

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hey everyone! Just starting a thread for this cycle's BAT/ABSN program at Binghamton that's starting next Summer 2021. I've just submitted the SUNY transfer app, but holding off on submitting the actual BAT app for a little while longer. Hoping we can use this thread to talk about the program and post questions like years prior! The deadline isn't until November so it's still way early, but having the thread ready to go doesn't hurt. I'm also applying to Buffalo and Brockport so I'll likely be active in those threads as well! ?

does anyone know if its necessary/do they care if we provide recommendations?  I don't think they asked for them

No, I talked to Nursing Admissions and they said they don’t look at any other information other than the required documents (Resume, Transcripts, Pre-requisite Form).

I’m a UB student now as a Senior and have a lot of friends in the ABSN and traditional BSN program, and I attended 2 informational sessions myself. UB is very strict that they only review the required documents. The Resume which is on the NursingCAS website where you have to manually add everything in (you can’t just upload a document with your resume) and the Essay response and Video response questions in NursingCAS. UB bases their decision on cumulative GPA, pre-req GPA, essay responses, and resume. They don’t accept any letters of recommendations or personal statements, they were really strict when they mentioned this in the info sessions.

UB has an essay? I don't see it under their status checker

Um what status checker are you talking about? The essays are in NursingCAS, that’s the only way you can apply to UB. You are talking about the University at Buffalo right?

So that means you haven’t applied yet to the ABSN program. I’m guessing you just applied through the SUNY app as a transfer? That just means you applied to UB as a school, not the Nursing program.

The final decision they’re talking about is if you got into UB, in the first place, as a transfer.

They're in NCAS. One is a written essay, the other is a video response. Like meg n said, sounds like you only applied to the school as a transfer and not to the actual ABSN, which is what I'm guessing you're looking to do! The deadline is next Thursday, Oct 1 so definitely look into it soon.

Honestly, I don't even know if I should give UB a chance now. I heard UB is mostly based on GPA and my GPA isn't that great,so I don't'want to pay the extra 55 dollars fee and then the chnace of me getting accepted is low

Do you mind if you can post the essay prompt and video prompt here? I want to decide if I should really go for it since my chances are slim, thanks!

Video Response (2 minute maximum) As you plan to enter the nursing profession during the COVID-19 pandemic, what are the greatest challenge(s) you think you would face as a future professional nurse and how would you address that challenge(s)? Directions: Create a maximum 2 minute video responding to the essay prompt.

Essay Response (2000 character maximum) Think of an experience when you were a part of a diverse team, working on a project where the group struggled to come to an agreement. Specify your role on the team. How did diversity of thought, background, and experiences influence / impact / benefit / contribute to the team? What did you learn from this experience and how will it influence your future practice as a registered nurse?

Like @kalebiscuits said, it’s due in less than a week so I would work on it ASAP but it definitely took me some time to condense all my thoughts, come out with good points to talk about, and actually take the video.
