As far as clinicals go, I was told:
"Students in our UG programs complete 3-6 week clinical rotations in med-surg, geriatrics, OB/Maternity, pediatrics, psych-mental health, and community health. Clinicals are assigned locally in Binghamton and Johnson City, in addition to other sites located within a 90 mile (approximate) radius (examples include but are not limited to Syracuse, Elmira and Sayre, PA). Most students end up traveling outside of Binghamton for one or two clinical rotations, which exposes them to different types of healthcare systems. In Binghamton, we have two major hospital systems: UHS and Lourdes. There are multiple facilities that we utilize in Binghamton, including long-term care facilities as well.
The final clinical course (NURS 471) requires 2 days of clinical per week. Students may request specific sites for this experience if they wish, and the course coordinators take this into consideration along with recommendations from former clinical instructors to find a site for each student. The 471 clinical experience gives students an opportunity to work alongside the nursing staff with quite a bit of autonomy."
For the final capstone preceptorship (NURS 471), she told me a while back that we can request clinical sites that are further upstate or even downstate and if I remember correctly I think she said that during that last semester, we only have to go back to campus like once a month! If I get accepted, I definitely want to confirm that because that sounds pretty awesome as I'm from NYC and coming back down here that last semester would be a nice option to have!
