Hi there! Has anyone else applied to this program and is waiting to hear back? I would love to hear about people's past experiences as well as get to know someone on the same page as me! I submitted my application in mid September and am wondering when we might hear back? I heard it was early last year!
Hi everyone, congratulations to all those accepted! I've created a new Facebook group so that we can all gather and discuss anything necessary before the program starts. We're stronger as a team! Please type in "Decker School of Nursing - Class of 2019" in your Facebook search bars. My name's Brian, can't wait to meet you all!
I believe someone already started a group, it was listed earlier. Did you try searching for it?
Also, I was accepted into SUNY Downstate, so I'm withdrawing my application today. Hopefully it will leave a spot open for someone! Best of luck everyone!
Since the school is SUNY there's less in the form of scholarships and such but they did start doing a pell grant for people who qualified as well as a skelly loan. This was I believe 3000 split over the course of the semesters. Live off campus it's way cheaper! Spring semester you have 471 which is the capstone. You request placement, giving your top three units. They say people are placed based on performance in clinical and gpa. It definitely helps if you have a car because then you can go to upstate in syracuse. I received my top choice but then was switched at the last minute and was not really happy with it. This happened to other people as well; I guess due to scheduling problems with the other nursing programs in the area. So it really depends, but I do know of some people who got exactly what they wanted. In terms of school/off time balance summer is kind of just your typical school semester, but with exams usually twice a week. The first few months of fall is very difficult. You won't have much time for anything else. Winter is pretty easy, you have off until around New Year's day and then you only have 1 week of clinical through there. So there's a decent amount of off time, and depending when your clinical falls you could potentially stay home for winter break an extra week. You have a ton of free time in the spring. It depends when you decide to take 470 and when you have 363 but I had 4 day weekends the first half and three day weekends the second half. You have no more than 3 clinical days a week during the spring. Hope this helps!

You're right, I found it. I dissolved my group and joined the existing one hehe. Good luck at Downstate, I got waitlisted there!

Hi LadyPeaches, thanks for the info. Anything is helpful. So I guess it's really the Fall semester that's the toughest? What's your best advice for the upcoming class? Any "If I did it over again, i'd do it this way instead" type of stuff lol? Is there anyway we could prepare for the classes before school starts?

Hi! Yes the fall semester is very difficult I won't sugarcoat it. I don't really think you can prepare too much for the summer....maybe brush up on some a+p because you will have patho exams once a week. In terms of general advice definitely be proactive in trying things out in clinical because it's really what you make of it. Be ready to write some long papers in the fall, possibly more than one at the same time. It's really all about managing your time well.
I'm still waiting to hear back. Just curious what is everyone's bachelors degree/background? I have a Bio degree and I'm a currently narcotic pharm tech supervisor at a LTC pharmacy
Hope you get in!. I have a physiology background and currently a pediatric outpatient and specialty ambulatory tech for Strong
Hi, any advice on how to get past the summer session? Any other advice besides brushing up on A&P? Also, was there any drug testing before clinicals started? I am waiting on a decision as well, good luck to everyone else waiting!
I think summer is probably one of the easiest to get through because for most of it you're not juggling clinical with it. If you have any sort of bio background patho is probably not going to be too hard for you. I think the most challenging part of the whole program isn't the content itself but the amount you have to deal with at once. Time management is really key. Some days are very long on the summer session like 8-6:30 i believe so be prepared for that. No drug testing throughout the program but I guess that could have changed, I doubt it though.
