big storm is coming

Published

and I'm already anticipating a strong possibility of being snowed in tomorrow when I'm to work at my LTC facility 3-11.

I'm feeling very torn. I should go somewhere when I can have access to roads. However, I'll be alone tonight - my daughter's going to be gone with friends for a football party and has plans to stay over - and I can't leave my dogs alone for 24+ hours! With the 12 inches or more snow predicted (and it's starting now), I'm thinking that it's gonna be a long, hard piece of work to digout tomorrow by myself. The snow's not supposed to stop until evening tomorrow with blizzard conditions during the day.

I've called in once because of snow in the 9 1/2 years I've worked at the facility, I've always had someone at home to watch the dogs. But I think I may not be there tomorrow. It's hard when the kids grow up and leave home, then you're responsible for everything!! :chuckle

But just the thought of calling in makes me feel bad - it's always so hard when there's a storm.

Dang it!

STAY HOME!!

Chances are the state will be declared a snow emergency anyway. People get lost, slide into ditches and freeze to death in snowstorms and blizzards. Ask yourself if it is worth the danger. If the answer is no, stay home!

If in fact we get the snow they are prediciting i expect to have some extra hours coming my way too. I wonder do you have a copy of the schedule so you might swap days with someone living closer to where you work? They might be more than willing to switch a day and maybe give them a long weekend? If it were me i would be more than willing to switch with someone who anticipated not being able to get to work rather than being called at 5am on a day that i am off because someone called in due to weather.

I have a biggie commute, so this morning, I just slid all the way home. Not fun. People speeding past me, nevermind the fact the its FREEZING RAIN!!!

I'm off until next weekend. Until then, I am not leaving the house. We are still getting conflicting reports on the amount of snow we are going to get. The final number seems to be resting around 5 inches.

I'm from Colorado...5 inches is a walk in the park. Try digging your house out of a snow drift. If you live in Colorado, and remember the blizzard of 1980, you will know what I am talking about!!

switching shifts. I think I'll call and see if I can get some names and call around.

The snow is so beautiful. It ought to be rather amazing here by morning. A foot of snow on top of the 14 inches from last week - It'll be gorgeous. I may have to load up the film in my Pentax and go take some pictures.

I honestly don't know how you folks in the Midwest stand it. I grew up in North Carolina, and lived in Chicago for 5 years, and the winters half drove me crazy. (My wife would argue that it was more than half ... ;-) I loved the city itself, but was considerably less in love from November to March.

Here in NC, a 1 inch snowstorm shuts down the schools. There was a 5 inch storm here last Sunday, and the schools were shut for 4 1/2 days. If there's even a HINT of snow in the weather forecast, the grocery stores will be packed with people stocking up on milk, bread, etc., because they might be "snowed in" for a day or so. ("Snowed in" means a few roads had to be plowed). A lot of folks have moved to this area from NY, NJ, and other northeastern areas, and I can always tell if it's their first winter here: it's the look on their faces when they see the natives' reaction to cold and ice.

Ha Ha !!! I hear ya ! Same thing here , Jim. Before moving to this area about 20 years ago, I had spent the previous ten in Connecticut.... vast difference ! I always have to chuckle when they freak out here when it's calling for a couple inches of snow. :chuckle

I'm in Kansas City, and three days ago, the local news was calling for "the snow storm of the decade"! They were saying that in some areas of the KC mtro area, we could get 12 to 16 inches.......... well, I sit here today in the RAIN! yeah, it's a bit slick in some areas.... and a few towns in the north have gotten a few FLURRIES, but this certainly isn't the snow storm of the DECADE!!! :chuckle the were predicting!

I guess, considering the mild winters of the last decade or so in the Midwest, it could very well be the "storm of the decade".

Too hot in summer....too cold in winter. I can't stand the midwest . I like the rainy Pac NW myself.

Ahhh,, but one thing about the midwest. The weatherman is no more accurate than most anyone else about their predictions. They dont know how much of anything well get until it gets here either.

Would you rather the kids moved back in with you? :chuckle :roll :chuckle

Don't endanger your life. If it's bad out, stay home. There's only one "you". :)
