What are your best, worst experiences for online programs?

Did they require thesis or not, $ per credit, support of faculty, etc.

Here's a start:

Indiana State

362/credit for anyone

no thesis, but a write up on an evidenced based practice topic

faculty support...left hanging on many questions so far :nono:

requires 48-51 credits for FNP

Ball State

364/credit ........malpractice insurance

no thesis/no other project

one alumni interviewed reported great support. Helpful staff by phone so far.

requires 48-51 credits for FNP

What does UAB stand for?

University of Alabama at Birmingham

I also am researching online NP programs.

I just completed a 100% online MS degree in Education program [also earning a certificae in online teaching and learning] thorugh California State University, East Bay. I am finding that (though I dont really want to teach face-to-face or be a clincial instructor, I need an MSN to teach in the nursing arena at all].

If I return to school for an MSN, I would like to qualify to take the test to become an NP, either in Women's Health or Family Practice. I am comfortable with online (self-motivate education) and with APA.

Frontier sounded good, but I would have to re-take Statistics, Patho, and Phsyical Assessment, because it has been more than 5 years. Also there is a pretty hefty on campus orientation period and the cost seems high.

I'm having trouble finding a women's health NP program that would be compatible with my pro-life (anti-hormonal contraceptive) values. Therefore I'm considering an FNP.

Please continue to share yor findings as far as ease of access, technical support, instructor quality, cost, on campus requirements, and overall satisfaction levels, for other like myself.

Any of you with insights to share may e-mail me privately also. I have tentatively explored Frontier school of nursing, Graceland University, The Catholic University of America [although I am not Catholic] & Univ of Phoenix.

Oh my treesaw, you have looked at most of the highly advertised programs. A lot of universities are taking their programs online and many of them are offering the same tuition in state and out of state. UAB has been specifically mentioned. I think University of South Alabama has a dual role NP/CNS that is online as well. You might come out ahead in the financial and the educational arena to look into some of those type of programs. I think Michigan state University has one as well that is strictly NP.

I didn't attend an online program but always that the didactic portion of the education would lend itself well to an online format for a motivated student.

Does the Ball State NP program have useless writing assignments like nursing school did?

Does the Ball State NP program have useless writing assignments like nursing school did?

I'm pretty sure they are ALL going to have useless writing assignments.

The University of Missouri had a very interesting final wrting piece for Theories where we had to pick a concept that we were interested in and do a concept analysis on it. It was enjoyable, because it was right on target in what I am interested in doing after I graduate. That was the only paper. Everything before that was reading and discussing online with your group who all had the same specific interests in A SPECIALTY. I enjoyed that very much. Krisssy

That sounds nice. All our general courses are together. We won't be with just our specialty until we start the specialty course track (after general courses - theory, research, etc. are already done).

LOL

I am enjoying this thread... I've just graduated from my RN program but I'm already looking at schools because I want to keep my momentum going... I'll probably go back as soon as I have a year of experience. I'm thinking I'll try for Frontier (since I'm interested in women's health) but you never know. Thanks for the scoop written here :)

I'm having trouble finding a women's health NP program that would be compatible with my pro-life (anti-hormonal contraceptive) values.

I know this is off topic, but would just like to mention that I am also pro-life and I took hormonal contraceptives to *get* pregnant! I took them for six months to shock my nonovulating body into ovulating again. First month I went off them I got pregnant!

I take them now to prevent overgrowth of my uterine lining which can lead to cancer. BC pills aren't necessarily something we should toss out. They helped me have three children (wish I could have more, if I was in better shape).

You may want to consider a Jesuit school such as Boston College. They offer a Women's Health NP program.
