BEST/WORST/least__ __online NP pgms?

What are your best, worst experiences for online programs?

Did they require thesis or not, $ per credit, support of faculty, etc.

Here's a start:

Indiana State

362/credit for anyone

no thesis, but a write up on an evidenced based practice topic

faculty support...left hanging on many questions so far :nono:

requires 48-51 credits for FNP

Ball State

364/credit ........malpractice insurance

no thesis/no other project

one alumni interviewed reported great support. Helpful staff by phone so far.

requires 48-51 credits for FNP

UAB

243.00 per credit hour, resident or not

Great support

I'm doing post-masters so don't know about thesis

One more factor:

ISU/Ball State do NOT require that you ever set foot on their campus. How about UAB? Some of the online programs do (Frontier) this is $$$$$ !!!

I understand that I only have to go to UAB for a two day lab checkoff at the end of my Fall 06 semester. I'll probably show up to graduate also!

I aqm currently in first semester of FNP program at Indiana State. So far it has been a good school. Cost of $262/sh, not $362. Their online program is very thorough. I have had good support and communications with all instructors so far. It is no fre ride. I definitely have to work for it. Lots and lots of writing, supported by nursing research documentation, and all in APA format.

One drawback of any distance FNP program is that you are going to have to find your own clinical preceptor. That can be a big problem. Traditional schools usually take care of this for you.

Overall... I would reccommend ISU.

Texas RN FNP

Yes, you're right, it's $262 per credit, with a $100 per class "distance fee". But still, cheaper than Ball State. Have you taken the statistics course yet? Which course is requiring all the APA and writing? Which I dread!

As far as preceptors, the brick and mortar FNP program I attend now does nothing to help its students find preceptors. In addition, classes are beamed to us through a televised system, no in person instructors. Yet, we still pay $500 per credit.

Thanks for sharing the info!

I am currently taking Statistical methods, Health Care Perspectives, and Nursing Theory. The last two requier the writing. Every week there are online discussions tat require you to post response to the topic on a a discussion board like site for the school. There is arubric for grading the postings. Some people even go as far as writing their assignments up totally in a paper format with title page, running header, and everything. HCP has one paper and theory has 2 papers. Stats is 4 2-part tests and long homework assignment every week. So far I have a strong A in each course, but it is a killer to take 3 courses and work full time in the Air Force.

brownrice: I received your private email through allnurses, but it would not let me reply because it said your amilbox is over quota. I would be glad to give you my home email to answer all your questions, but if I post it on the bulletin board I would get spammed to death. There are computer programs that just go through websites looking for email addresses to put on mailing lists (It has happened to me before) .So delete some of the emails in your mailbox that you don't need so I can reply to you.

Hi Kevin:

It's clear! Sorry about the trouble! It certainly doesn't hold much...had no idea it was FULL.

Missouri University at Columbia

$261.20 a credit from any state plus $33 for Information Technology GRD

I just took my first course in Theory. It was a ton of work, but I loved it. We had to read and post on a group website. We also discussed like we do here. There is no thesis, and we do not have to go to the campus. The library and tech help was fabulous. I am so happy with the school. If you want to PM me with specific questions, please do. Krisssy

ZENMAN, I am interested in the UAB post-graduate FNP program and would love to hear any input you can provide! Thanks!
