Best tablet/laptop for Nursing School?

Published

Hello!! I'm looking forward to starting nursing school this Fall and have worked hard to be awarded a technology grant from the Choctaw Nation! But my question is, what should I get? Are you a Surface Pro 4 fan or an ipad fan? I've been more interested in the Surface but I want to hear from you!! What do you like and dislike about your tablet/laptop??

I have an iPad Air 2 but as SOON as I can afford the Surface Pro I will be switching over. If you can go with the Surface now, go for it! Apple products have limited memory that shoots the price up the more hard memory you get and they don't take USB drives. Those are my two killers with this software. Also, flash for some websites and resources are needed and it's a pain with Apple software. It's like you buy the iPad but then have to buy multiple apps or attachments to make it feasible for school. Just my opinion, hope it helps!

I love my surface pro 4. Best purchase I have made. I was reticent to shell out the money for it but I am so glad that I did. So much better than my old laptop. I love writing my notes directly on the power points using the pen. It's lightweight and is also very quick to open and respond. Congrats on your grant and good luck in school!

I got through nursing school with a pad and pen ;-) LOL. My sister is in college right now and she asked me about computers, I said that to her too. I like my laptops personally, I haven't been a fan of tablets but they have so many new functions that I might like one if I tried to use it.

Good Luck and congratulations on going to nursing school. Nursing is considered one of the most trusted professions so use that role wisely and kindly. In August, I will celebrate 10 years since passing my boards. I have learned alot about mysekf and humanity while working in this gift if a profession. Cheers to your new role as a nurse! PS, glad you posted on this topic. I'm considering going back and I need all the tips I can get :)

iPad Pro with pencil is my favorite. I got mine for Christmas, and the pencil is great for note taking in my psy 210 class.

Damn stats class!

I'm finally taking A&P I and my teacher said at the beginning of the first day, besides everyone getting test anxiety, that printing out Powerpoints IN COLOR helps with learning. I had 56 slides or so for my first day of A&P and I went to office max to get them done in color. The guy modified them to where they were viewable side to side, there was no big ugly picture frame surrounding the information so I could write where ever I wanted, they were in color. I modified them down to 2 slides a page so it cut the possible print out paper amount to 23. I had to add 4 extra papers but it came to a total of $10 with student discount where the system matches what the school charges students for color even though my school doesn't print color for us anymore I guess. But yeah, she is one of the most popular teachers for A&P and she said color powerpoints help with learning better than black and white. As the old saying goes,"You get what you pay for." If I can get into nursing school, my powerpoints will be in color, if we have any. I'm not going black and white with anything that has to do with getting a grade for nursing anymore. I've heard other people rave about color power points and I never took it seriously but considering this was from my first A&P class, the class that is the staple of nursing, I had to go with what she said. I'm trying it out. It's pretty cool seeing color on something that can determine your grade for class. I've never printed in color before. When it comes to this A&P class, I'm like literally my eyes are like spongebobs and patricks when they look at the pirate map for treasure :roflmao:

I wanted a laptop, not a tablet. I love love love what I got last fall when I started grad school.

I got an Asus Zenbook UX303U. It looks like a mac, but runs all the PC-based programs that I need for school without having to finagle things. Super lightweight and thin, good battery life, touchscreen (if you like that). I would recommend looking at the entire Zenbook line. This is my second Asus laptop and I can't imagine buying anything else.

It's not so much about what you buy, but where you buy. Costco has a 2 year warranty that I highly recommend. It goes beyond the manufacturers warranty. Also, I've had luck with ASUS and Lenova. I am not an Mac person.

I'm in pre-nursing and the Surface/ One note combo are awesome. Writing is smoothly and Onenote has an app for phones as well so you are never without your notes.

I love my Macbook Pro, although it is not necessary. Most of the girls in my class use a chrome book and store everything on their google drive.

I went through nursing school with a notebook and a few pens. Didn't even have calculators.

They were just introducing handheld calculators when I started. We had to use slide rules for chem exams. I went through two years of undergrad chem and never did figure out the slide rule.

I bought a Surface 3 before I started my final semester last August. It's not perfect but it's the best device I've bought. The keyboard is solid but lightweight. I loved that I could swipe on the screen rather than scrolling using the touch pad. I like Windows, and can't stand iOS.
