That is a heavy course load with a lot of heavy classes. Micro and Patho might be easy from the outside looking in but if you're trying to grasp the material it's a lot to take at one time. Pharmacology is a lot in and of itself. Pluse Fundamental...
  2. Specialization: When to Decide?

Go in with an open mind, you never know what you may fall in love with. I have classmates who love trauma, telemetry, critical care, some just love med-surg. Get in school, focus on the skills and knowledge, and let the clinical experience guide yo...
  3. Converse sneakers at clinicals

Ours had to be white leather so if they have canvas on them it may be a problem...if you're looking to get ahead I'd just e-mail the nursing counselor and see if they can find out for you.

  5. This is so crazy - Do I Need All These Books?

My book bundle was 700 dollars and required. Only 3 were hard copies and the rest were e-books. A total of 5 books to start then we had to purchase 2 more books in 3rd semester that totaled a little under 300 and a access code that was 100. It's ex...
  6. RN Specialty to different NP Specialty

Hi JulesA, I definitely understand what you mean. RN/NP in psych is a totally different realm than the therapeutic side. I have enjoyed having the opportunity to see how we approach the same situation in a different manner. Thanks so much for your...

  8. RN Specialty to different NP Specialty

KatieMI that's a relief to read. You brought up a great point. I hope my previous experiences would only add to my ability to diagnose and treat if I'm blessed to become a PMHNP. However, I can definitely understand why some physicians would want a s...

  10. RN Specialty to different NP Specialty

Thanks for the input Jules. I currently work at an acute care inpatient psychiatric hospital as the therapist and I work hand in hand with the RNs and the psychiatrist and NPs. However I'm on the floor with the RNs all day and the psychiatrist and NP...
  11. RN Specialty to different NP Specialty

Hi all, I'm curious to know if anyone has had a RN nursing specialty that differs from their NP track. For example, ER RN that went the FNP route or in my case a hopeful RN that will possibly go the PMHNP route while obtaining hospital placement in ...
  12. How does your school work?

My school is pretty much as you posted OP. All 4 semesters are broken into Nursing I, II, III, and IV and that's what your schedule will read. The content for each semester is similar except we do Psych in 3rd semester.
  13. First clinical ahead tips?

Definitely be well rested and fed. In addition, review your head-to-toe assessment, have your drug book (we use Davis), review your VS and and remember hygiene! Also, make sure you have a pocket-sized notebook to take notes or write down pertinent ...
  14. Best tablet/laptop for Nursing School?

I have an iPad Air 2 but as SOON as I can afford the Surface Pro I will be switching over. If you can go with the Surface now, go for it! Apple products have limited memory that shoots the price up the more hard memory you get and they don't take U...
  15. Nursing Diagnosis book recommendations

I'm not sure which book OP picked but I'm currently using Nursing Care Plans: Nursing Diagnosis and Intervention by Gulanick, Meg; Myers, Judith L. I really like this one because it has the care plans divided by diagnosis and/or systems. I bought it...
