Best Remote Nurse Jobs?

Hi all, I'm really really looking for a position in nursing that I can find fulfilling and not feel like I wasted my time and money on working so hard for a nursing degree.

I've been a nurse for 3 years and burn out is not enough to explain how sick I am of nursing. I have not at all enjoyed being a nurse. Being a bedside nurse has honestly been a nightmare for me and from the beginning, I've said I Need to get out of this field. It's soo sad because I've worked so extremely hard to become a nurse. Being a nurse used to be my dream. I thought it would be a good/descent career. It's only fair to think that something which takes effort and dedication to obtain will yield something positive. So many times I've thought is this the end for me because I cannot continue doing this. As a bedside nurse I feel so lifeless and sad.  I could go on and on but I'll leave it here.

So, I'm really praying that I won't have to throw away my degree because I can't last as a bedside nurse. Isn't there a nursing position that isn't extremely stressful, anxiety producing and one can feel fulfilled doing? I don't want to be sad going into work. I don't want to be very nervous the night before a shift because I have to work the next day. I just want to enjoy my job. Before I became a nurse I was a nurses assistant and I enjoyed it. I didn't hate it. My job didn't put a dent into my life and my well being. I'm seriously looking for a remote nursing job, away from bedside, no direct pt care at all or extremely minimal. I've unfortunately heard that those can be stressful too ? so I'm like oh my gosh what kind of career is this? But then I also heard stories where people have positions they enjoy and are pretty simple. Before I leave where I am, I just want to go into something better, not worse. I also see remote nursing position where the job description is a lot with so many projects, having to do charts, etc and I know that's not for me although I'm seeing positions like that alot unfortunately. I've heard a lot about utilization review. Any remote nurses that can help and share information, pleeeeese help. I would really appreciate the information. Thank you!

Hii! So I'm coming up on 4 years of critical care experience and have decided I'm done with bedside as well. First, just want you to know you're not alone. There are alot of young nurses and even new grads that are coming in field and then leaving just as fast. Eventhough I basically have come to despise bedside nursing, I wouldn't want to leave the field entirely because of what you've mentioned--working so hard to get where I am. Thank God, bedside isn't the only option. Right now, I'm traveling and about to stop so I've been looking at non bedside jobs. I figured I'd share a few remote job ideas.. working in insurance as a nurse, telehealth triage, telehealth call center, case management, nursing informatics, and also nurses can code as well. Keep praying, God is good and will help you through if you ask. Also, think about quitting and doing some local travel contracts until you can find something you want to do. The money is good and switching locations kind of distracts you from the time. If you still feel down, quit. No job is worth your life. Please consider a therapist as well.

How about trying a medical office or outpatient area?  A little less crazy as far as hours go but, of course, every job has it's own kind of stress.  I found that when I left bedside for a regular, 8 to 4, Monday through Friday gig, I was happier.  I felt like a had a normal schedule and that helped me.  Having the same schedule as my friends and family really helped me get back on track with living.  After 12 years of a hospital setting I went into school nursing at a facility for children with severe special needs.  I love it!  It is stressful.  I am the only person here with 260 students but I love every day with them.  The hours are great and I have 2 months off a year to relax and recoup.  Lots of options out there.  Hang in there and find your special niche.

Nursing can be stressful FOR SURE. When I went to nursing school I knew right of the top I didn't want to be a bedside nurse.

I've been a school nurse for 6 years and have worked as a PRN nurse for the same amount of time (I was working at a nursing home before that).

Although I was super stressed during COVID I still love my job. I love working with this population, being the ONE smiling person these poor kids may see ect. It does have stress, like any job, but my co-workers make it worth it.

Both home health and school nursing involve one-on-one interactions and community interactions which I love.

Hang in there, you chose a good career, now it's time to see where else you could work! I even saw a post on indeed once that was for a travel nurse for somebody in entertainment, how cool is that?

You got this!

I've been looking into those, doing so much research. But from what I've heard, outpatient can be havoc too or not much better. Either that or doesn't pay enough. I would hope to keep my pay which isn't a bunch or more. I only have one more chance to leave where I am so I want it to be the best option. I will Definitely look into that and I am very happy for you. 12 years ??. Wow. You are very strong person to have did it that long. Thank you so much for sharing.

Have  you thought about working for a company that does drug studies. I allways thought that would be cool or working for a teaching hospital assisting Drs doing research.

Ultimately nothing pays like bedside so there is that to consider especially if you have student loans to pay off. You might look into advanced practice nursing but that's more school and possibly more loans.

I have a question, what exactly were your expectations when you became a nurse? At some point in time I feel we all have been stressed beyond belief and have cried many a night wondering if we were in the right profession. I have been in the medical field for over 30 years and honestly there have been MANY times I wanted to throw in the towel. You say you don’t like bedside nursing. The beauty in nursing is that you can branch out to SO many areas! I guess you haven’t found your niche as yet? What to do you do on your downtime? It’s important to have an outlet . Good luck.

trust me, I'm definitely doing as much research as possible. Thank you so much for the extra info. I follow a page that's all about remote nursing and have a membership for jobs that I can apply to so I'm just searching for a good one for me. The more information the better. I definitely take this serious and seriously pray and wish everyday that atleast within the next year, I find a happy way out of the bedside

Hi, honestly, not liking it is an understatement. It is the worst experience I have ever had in my life. Many times I was so close to suicide because of it. My expectations were that I would enjoy taking care of people as I did going into the career and live my life to the fullest doing so. Unfortunately,  sometimes we don't know the truth until we're in. Of course I didn't expect it to be perfect but I definitely did not expect to be mentally and emotionally traumatized, defeated, destroyed, every negative way to describe it that you can possibly think of. I put my absolute all in nursing to be taken 50 steps back in my life, that's really how it feels at the bedside. I wish I could tell you all I went through in a year because of bedside nursing and I'm hoping it's just the bedside instead of the field in general. This stress isn't worth it at all. Yes, the only beauty is that it is broad because otherwise, no.  No matter what I do, no matter how much fun I have or care for myself, working as a bedside nurse takes it away. I feel empty and like I don't exist. I feel normal outside of work then when I have to go in, it's all downhill from there. I've never experienced such misery to the point I felt so much peace thinking I wouldn't wake up again.

I agree what you are feeling is beyond job burnout. Nobody should be so miserable in a job that their life outside work is so negatively affected. From reading your posts I am thinking you need to get out of the job you are in now.

Even if you take a different bedside position until you find something totally different and away from the bedside it might help. You sound like you need a change sooner rather than later. If nothing else there are tons of Nursing Jobs away from hospital nursing that you could explore.  No job is stress free but as stressed as you are in your job I'm thinking pretty much anything would be an improvement over your current situation.

Aww thank you. Trust me, believe it or not this is the best bedside job out of all. They are all the same. I just deal with it as much as I can for now and pray. That's why I'm hoping that within the next year I find something from bedside and better to where I'm not miserable and leave all this behind me.
