Funny you should ask. I moved to southwest Florida 10 years ago.
A favorite supervisor of mine had retired the year before, she did not retire until her oldest child was done with college, within one year she died. It got me to thinking. I knew I wanted to retire to Florida, then started to think , but what if something should occur and I never reach retirement, or I would die shortly thereafter.
The rest is history so to speak.. Best decision I made. I love the Gulf, love the winters. Have met many wonderful people. I love the home we bought, before the huge inflated prices of recent years. I love where I work. Love no state tax, hate high home owners insurance. It is outrageous.

I think that the best place to retire is anywhere that makes you happy. I know sounds kind of sappy. LOL. I think the bigger picture is where we can afford to retire. I hope to retire in about 12 years and hopefully spend time back in Colorado. I love the mountains and the people. Hopefully all of us will be able to afford to, but at this point I'm not so sure.

I plan to retire in a foreign country...probably Mexico...but only if the exchange rate is in my favor...otherwise I will stay in the good ole USA.

i want to retire to my boat. we'll circumnavigate, although right now the discussion is do we circumnavigate the americas? or the globe.? i'm leaning toward globe, but dh thinks that a long ocean crossing may be too hard on the dog -- no fire hydrants.
oh ruby, once upon a time that was my dream retirement. a boat to live on...... course wouldn/t you know i ended up falling for a nonboater..lol
you have to love that plan! wow.....what is the first place you plan on going?
my first husband was afraid of the water! but my dh has the same dream. man am i lucky!
nova scotia. then we'll work our way down the east coast, pausing to take travel assignments (me) while he has dinner waiting for me at the end of my shift. we'll take six months off and go through the panama canal, then work our way up the west coast to alaska. by that time i ought to be able to retire, too. then who knows?
