Noticed a bunch of old threads from 2008-2011 but none current. For current travelers what are the best agencies to work for in 2016 which include company housing and family health insurance in pay package for 2016?

For what reasons?

Because they use Meditech....1985 called and they want their DOS system back! Yuck.

I'm not sure I'm overly confident myself. But having lived in some of the most crime ridden areas in the country, and doing things locals told me not to, like bicycling and walking through bad neighborhoods, I have come to realize that it is human nature to exaggerate local dangers, particularly of areas full of people different than you. Crime statistics do vary from place to place, but lets say you have three times the odds of crime happening to you in a given area. What are the odds of crime happening to you in the high rate area? Still not good.

Better living by knowing the odds!

I appreciated this post, NEDRN

I am currently in NM in a city that said "high crime rate" when i googled it etc... no problems noted here! I also have lived in other states that were known to be sketchy/high crime, but as always i don't go around town at night by myself (being female) and I don't go out drinking at bars and i am not involved in any sort of drug activity. just a nurse, working and supporting my family. that being said the locals are extremely friendly and I am near the Mexico border and haven't experienced any trouble with that whole gamete of drama! honestly, online reports of crime rates should be read with a grain of salt. the people involved usually remain the same. pretty hard to get involved in crime when you are a law abiding citizen etc.

To Sunshine: I am halfway through a traveling contract in New Mexico. I started out in Albuquerque and ended up in Santa Fe. You have to be very careful in this state. Albuquerque had a lot of crime, car thefts, etc. Santa Fe & small towns around it - lots of drug use and drunk drivers. I have spent all my down time in my housing - except for going out early in the day for food, shopping, etc.

I think it would be okay if I weren't alone, but as a single female, I always have to watch my back. BTW - it's the locals that fill you in on the DWI drivers - plus you will notice yourself - you have to be very careful driving and hope for the best.

I won't come here again.

How sad that you have not ventured out to see the beauty that New Mexico offers. It is called the Land of Enchantment for many reasons. Have you seen the spiral staircase at the Loretto Chapel in Santa Fe? Pueblo Bonita, Acoma Sky Pueblo, Gone to 4 Corners or attended the Gathering of Nations? Not to mention Carlsbad Caverns where President Obama just visited, White Sands National Park. There is so much to explore by bikes, skiing abounds (Angel Fire). Every state has it's pros & cons. I lived in Wash DC and heck same thing with crime statistics but that did not make me a hermit as you seem to have chosen. Part of traveling was getting to know local colleagues and learning about the different cultures & history of the area, for me anyways. I am a Native of New Mexico.

Silver City by chance? Friend of mine moved back down there from Denver recently as that is where she was originally from.

Try googling hypodermic highway. It will help you compare travel nursing companies. Good luck.

Hi all...I'm a nurse in Maine....have a friend who travels and has regaled me with stories of subpar housing ...I'm also a landlord...I have a couple of houses that would be great housing for travelers (nice homes and good location) but am unsure if I should approach specific agencies or where to advertise for travelers looking for housing.....any suggestions?....if there are agencies who offer housing with their contracts...who are they?....thanks for any and all help!!!!!

There are a number of third party medical housing companies used primarily by agencies but also by travelers. That is your best bet and you will also get the locum tenens physicians and allied health. Agencies do keep lists of housing but there are 400 just travel nurse companies. Way too much work! Worth it to pay a management fee to third party companies (they may just pay your desired price anyway and add their margin). Even listing property on a travel forum like this one (if it was even allowed) would be pretty random and not worth it.

Alternatively, posting your availability with local hospitals is still better than trying travel companies: medical staffing dept is the place to start. But even that will miss many travelers.

Googling "temporary medical housing" should find these companies. Alternatively, Google PanTravelers and look for the useful links page. All the known such companies are listed there. They will pay you directly (no interaction with travelers required to guarantee payment) and probably carry excess coverage to protect your assets.

Also list on your local Craigslist regularly with travel nurse in the title. That is my first stop looking for housing. Second step is always posting a housing wanted ad on Craigslist. That finds me great choices that don't proactively post their own ads. So look at housing wanted ads regularly. I've learned that travel nurses are highly desired tenants and seldom have money issues.

Who do you work with from Onward?

Hey do you mind if I get your information if I am ever up in Maine?? Thanks!

Forget what I said earlier about expedient medstaff, they only had two decent pay packages just terrible.

MSSI-they do not staff third party contracts. Only have direct contracts with the hospital. That means no middle man like Aya, Cross Country or AMN.

USSI-lower hourly, usually max stipended 95% of the time.

RCM- Decent packages.

BlueForce- Short assignments. Haggle with them. Also staff hard to fill hospitals so keep that in mind.

Faststaff-High hourly. Housing & Meals combined usually 400-800 per week. often house in Nasty extended stays. Also staff hard to fill hospitals so keep that in mind.
