I have been a RN for about 1 1/2 years now and am starting to look towards going back and getting my BSN. I need something online since I work full time and have children, but also something that is inexpensive. What has been your experience with getting your
BSN online? Do you have to do any clinicals and if so how does that work? Are there any programs to help financially?
Have a wonderful new year and thank you for your responses.
It might be TX only though.
No you don't have to be in TX for Lamar, but there are some exceptions. The following is from their website.
Lamar University has approval or has confirmed that Lamar University has been granted an exemption to offer online degree programs with the exception of the following states: Iowa, Kansas, Maryland, Minnesota, Nevada, North Dakota, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Rhode Island.

Ah. Thanks. I'm not in any of those states. I'm currently looking for an RN-BSN program. I need convenient online scheduling & as cheap as I can get it because I still have to come up with this out of pocket. I'm not buying student loan debt for a degree I'm ONLY getting because I'm being forced.
I'm an ADN with 6 years of experience, primarily in peds & post-surgical care. My hospital now has this notion to pursue magnet status & for the last 3 years or so has only hired BSNs. None of us ADNs are being terminated or threatened, but every time we have a forum, etc the focus is pushed on us to obtain a BSN by year 20xx. (I can't remember what year.)
I was googling around & saw a mention of a Lamar University. No clue how "good" it is, but it's $7500.
They require core curriculum classes like Texas Govt., US History I and II, and other specifics. I have Bachelors in another field and of course don't have these kinds of credits already completed.
I'm finding with all these online RN TO BSN programs, you have to watch all the other classes they require- it can add a whole other semester to your completion time! Not to mention extra $$$
Hi all! great thread and lots of great info. With much info posted some confusion is an order lol. I've just relocated to TX. I've been and RN for over 20years (licensed in NY/NJ) hopefully soon will get my endorsed TX license too. But I'm foreign diploma educated nurse. I also have B.S (premed) and M.S in a different field. I never thought I'd need BSN but w/ everything going on in healthcare these days it really can't hurt. So cheap and relatively fast are two most deciding factors. It looks like WGU / TX will work for me. I read many pros and cons on here. Anybody currently attending and loving it? Also any foreign-educated nurses in their program on here. Please give feedback or shoot PM to me. TYVM.

I am loving WGU so far.. almost 2 months in and just finishing up 31 credits. :) I'm at about 100 a unit now, which will only go down as I take more classes.
