Best online RN to BSN program....CHEAP?

Nursing Students Online Learning

Updated:   Published

I have been a RN for about 1 1/2 years now and am starting to look towards going back and getting my BSN. I need something online since I work full time and have children, but also something that is inexpensive. What has been your experience with getting your

BSN online? Do you have to do any clinicals and if so how does that work? Are there any programs to help financially?

Have a wonderful new year and thank you for your responses.:D

Specializes in Med/surg, Telemetry/PCU, Bone & Joint.

I just checked out their website. $152.00 a credit for out of state residents....wow! Thanks for the lead, I'll have to look into this college a bit further. I would like to find a university that doesn't require any clinical rotations.

I just found out that University of Wyoming does not require any clinical rotation.

does wyoming have a decent schedule or are they traditional semesters?

I haven't gotten that far, but it's all online and they claim you can finish in one year full time, so I can only assume there has to be more than 2 or 3 semesters a year like all other online RN to BSN programs.

they are traditional semesters.

Specializes in Geriatrics, Home Health.

Wyoming doesn't admit students from some states.

The implementation of the Higher Education Act - State Authorization has affected the admission of out-of-state students in the RN-BSN Completion Program. The School of Nursing is no longer admitting students from the following states: Arkansas, Iowa, Kansas, Maryland, Massachusetts, and Minnesota.

Thought I would throw this one out there. www.cumberland.edu/online/rn-bsn. I have been looking into them only statistics,micro,a/p required and your RN license. And the 36 hours of BSN courses. Expensive at $425/hr but, less credits to take so probably works out. Oh, and they say that you need to be RN for 2 yrs but, they do accept other medical experience such as LPN and Paramedics I know for sure. And, No clinicals! But, I am still looking around as well.

Specializes in SNF.

About UTA, people... I sent my transcripts. RN to BSN Online Admissions counselor said it has to show online, on MYMAVS (your personal web page inside the UTA website), so she could evaluate it and see what I need to go on. It has been one month now, and the trancripts are still NOT online. I called their Registrar more than 10 times, and all they say is "It will be online in 3 bussinesses days, we have your trancripts here. I guess they need to take math class, because they have no idea what 3 days means!! Actually, they knew very well about numbers when I had to pay 50 dolars to have transcripts evaluated. So, just some info for you out there... :-)

The same exact thing is happening to me. Because of that, I am looking into UT Tyler. They have a similar RN-BSN program that can be completed in 12 months (rather than UTA's 13 months). UT Tyler also has an RN-MSN that has many (if not most) classes online; the good thing about this program is you can stop at BSN if you want. There are quite a few good schools here in Texas:

-Texas A&M Health Science Center (RN-BSN online)

-UT Arlington (RN-BSN online...13 months long)

-UT Tyler (RN-BSN online, RN-MSN hybrid...12 months long)

-Texas Tech (RN-BSN online...2 semesters)

Very good info! Thank you. I already gave up on UTA...feeling disrespected by them. Will try the ones you mentioned. :-)

Still giving a shout out to my alma mater univ of Wyoming!

Well I gave up on UTA also, but have decided to pursue Lamar University's online RN-BSN program. Started application process had transcripts sent over last week and they have already uploaded them to my degree program. so far its looking good. Still waiting to here from nursing on acceptance.
