I'm a new nurse, and want to be the best nurse I can be! haha ..... I know that takes time. Anyway, I just want to know what nursing journal will aid me in keeping up to date and refreshed on my practice.

Specializes in Oncology, Triage, Tele, Med-Surg.

My favorite is "Nursing Made Incredibly Easy." Its format is pleasing and often helps me with explanations that are teachable to my patients. Several nursing journals allow a free trial issue - if you don't like then you don't have to buy. I tried several. Good luck. :nurse:

Specializes in LTC.

I also agree my favorite is "Nuring Made Inredibly Easy."

I would subscribe to more than one if I was you. They tend to have different way of approaching nursing. By the way I am big fan of "Nursing Made Incredible Easy" also.

Specializes in Mixed Level-1 ICU.

Stay clear of RN Magazine, Advance for Nurses, and Nursing 2009. They are nursing cheerleaders existing for advertising dollars and they'll never give you anything but "nursing's the greatest thing going" no matter how bad things really are, how things are deteriorating, and what really needs to be done to stop the bleeding.

Specializes in Emergency, Cardiac, PAT/SPU, Urgent Care.

Are you working in a specialized area? Finding a journal within your specialty really helps - for example, I receive the Journal of Emergency Nursing and it keeps me up to date on new research related to ER nursing, procedures, technology, etc.

Specializes in ED, Rehab, LTC.

This is a great question and idea. I'm going to look into these also.

"Revolution Magazine", from the CNA, (California Nurses Association). I would also recommend joining the CNA, and NNOC, even though you dont live or work in California. They are doing the best work for nurses, out of all of the nursing associations in the country. JMHO and my NY $0.02.

Lindarn, RN, BSN, CCRN

Spokane, Washington

thanks for the suggestions! I'm a med/surg nurse

like you i am new... isn't it exciting to explore your passions as a new nurse???? :nurse:

to avoid paying a lot of fees read articles at your local library for free before subscribing. also joining organizations of interest will assist in receiving publications of interest. for example, i am sure that there is a medical surgical nursing association, where you can join and receive their publications. i think it is the academy of medical surgical nurses but am not sure (it is what came up when i googled "medical surgical nursing association"). here is the link... http://www.medsurgnurse.org/. there is also a link to publications such as to the journal of medical surgical nursing. if you have specific interest in medical surgical nursing, such as strokes and nuero, cardiac, oncology, etc. nurisng, then try to either join a national organization with that specialty or find a publication through your local library and subscribe. gl!

Specializes in Oncology/BMT.

On the contrary to Nursing2009, I believe it is an excellent resource! It does have a lot of ads, but it has great articles too. I have found good articles on med safety, legal stuff, and disease processes. Subscribe to a magazine relating to where you plan to work. And, Nursing Made Incredibly Easy is awesome too!

Specializes in psych, addictions, hospice, education.

I like Nursing 2009 for things that are easy to read and understand, in spite of all the ads. I kind of like the ads too though! I like AJN (American Journal of Nursing) for a generic somewhat scholarly journal. If you have a specialty, there's bound to be a journal in it. Look around where you look and see what you find laying around, or ask the DON or manager...
