Before the Morning (Failed CRNE three times. what now?)

World Canada CRNE

Published

I just received a bad news. My nursing career is over. Yes, I am no longer one of you, but I feel a need to share my story. I have failed the CRNE for the third time and honestly, I don't know what is there left for me. I know things happen for a reason. sometimes, i just think that GOD is being so unfair. Throughout my nursing school, all i did was to do my best both theory and clinical. I have received praises being a "very good" Graduate Nurse. But then again, all has to end with an examination that I can't seem to pass even though I have put my thoughts and heart on preparing for it. At some point, I think of myself as a dumb individual, up for no good. If nursing was not meant for me, why did HE made it possible for me to even complete my Degree Program? I have so many questions to GOD right now. I have prayed hard for that moment of finally receiving a letter with the word "PASS" on it, but instead a phone call saying I have failed on my third attempt and had to wait for a letter containing my options.

Nursing Has always been my dream and I can't see myself pursuing other career in life. I don't think I can handle another 4 years of schooling or even the strength to even try to put my life back on track. I know that God has a reason for why I'm going through this test right now (one I consider the hardest test in my life, so far), and probably there is more to come. I have so much faith in him that in spite it all, I still look forward to that one morning of waking up from my sleep and the pain, the sadness, the sufferings are over. I know that HE works in ways unimaginable. I know that he hears my prayer and in his own time he'll grant those prayers. But for now, all I needed is some sort of encouragement from you, whoever you are reading this post right now.

I still thank GOD because I have my life, I am breathing, I can still appreciate all the good things he had created. As long as there is tomorrow, I will continue to fight a good fight!

Moved to NCLEX forum for feedback....

I certainly hope that you will have options and that this turns out to be a delay and not an insurmountable wall. Best wishes and prayers extended.

I do hope so! I don't want to give up on my dreams! right now, no matter what other people say, they can judge me all they want, BUT i'm not giving up, not so easily like that. But I still get emotional most of the time, knowing about my situation.

NCLEX and CRNE are two very different exams.

Could this be moved to the Canadian Nursing Forum?

Thanks Fiona59. Have a great day. :)

I'm sorry to hear that yahy. I wish I could give you a hug, you could really use one right now.:crying2:

There might be some refresher course of somehing you could take, that will permit to retake the CRNE. I don't know if there is such a thing but you should contact the college of nurses regarding this. They should know if it's even an option.

What ever you do, I wish you best of luck. Maybe all this happened because you were meant to do something else in health care?

Does anyone know the answer to this  : If someone failed CRNE 3 times, and they have a BSN, could they take the NCLEX-RN in the states? And if they pass, work in the states?

If you are determined to become a licenced nurse, then contact the CNO and find out what your next option would be. As stated above, it may be a refresher course or something else.

I am also wondering if you know why you didn't pass, CNO will hand correct your exam and tell which areas you had difficulty with. In addition, do you have test anxiety that is causing this? Is english your first language? There could be many reasons why you have not passed this exam and you may need to address whatever the issue is.

I would sort out any issues first and then decide where to write the exam again. JMO.

I find a lot of people here very judgemental especially those that never expected they could pass the exam. It's ok cos at this stage the serotonin level is so high that they just open their mouths and say whatever they like to make themselves feel good.hey, its not over.Try out the 'nurse re entry program'.Its a one year program. It will prep you for the exam which i am sure you will have the option of writing again if you appeal and let them know you will be going on the program.God is on you side.Hold on to God more now than ever before.Good luck!

Linzz, CNO isn't going to be able to help yahy because she's in Alberta...

The nurse re-entry programme is likely to be on the list of options you'll receive from CARNA, yahy. It may be your best chance at turning this around. But like linzz said, you should try to figure out what has given you the most trouble with succeeding and see how it can be overcome. Once you've heard from CARNA, maybe you could contact them and ask for their assessment of your exam results so that you can see if there are specific areas that are more difficult for you. There are about as many reasons for not making it as there are stars in the sky so only you know what might be yours. I'm very sorry that all your hard work hasn't borne fruit and that there's still so much more work and uncertainty ahead. As hard as that is, it's important to stay positive - you still have options! Chin up.

Grant MacEwan has a distance-ed re-entry/refresher/nurse-credentialing programme that can be completed in as few as 6 months. The information on the programme can be found here: http://www.macewan.ca/web/hcs/nursec/home/index.cfm I would bet my next mortgage payment that CARNA will have included this on your list of options. It's been approved by the Colleges of other provinces such as Nova Scotia, so it must be worth it. Once you've firgured out what's tripping you up and refreshed your mind with nursing theories (ick) and reviewed all that A&P you will be on your way.
