Do you have to bathe each other during your bed bath skill check? We have to wear a bathing suit or shorts & a halter top. We also have to brush each others teeth. I was just wondering if this was common. I don't mind bathing a stranger, but it will be weird having a classmate scrub between my toes!!!!

Honestly I think "most" skills should be practiced on your classmates... The dummies are nice, but they aren't what you have in clinicals... And the way I see it, anyone can poke an orange with a needle, but if you can't poke your classmate with confidence then I don't think you are ready to poke your patient...
Hello,
I am a first semester student in a RN program. We will be doing bed baths this week. I was informed that we will be using each other to give the baths. At first I was a bit taken back at the idea that my classmates will see may body (after four kids), but after reading how helpful and hands on this will be, I fell a little better. I will check back next week to let you know how it went

We had to perform a bed bath on eachother and atfirst, I was like, "no way", others in class were saying they didn't want classmates seeing their feet, a birthmark on thigh etc........our instructor heard us all talking about how embarrassing it's going to be and said to us, "this will show you how a patient feels"........she was right! I am glad that we did it that way. It really did show us how it feels to have to depend on somebody else to do the things that we take forgranted. We even had to feed one another, and try feeding ourselves with a "make believe cast" on, pretending to be blind and so on. It was a very good experience, one that cannot be experienced by using a dummy. So, if you have a choice, skip the dummy. Gives you a whole new perspective on "patient privacy" and "patient rights"............

Wow, I can't believe you have to bathe each other. I think we either pretended or we bathed dummies. I really can't remember, but we did have to brush each other's teeth...mine excluded because of extreme morning sickness and sensitive gag reflex...Man, I can't say I regret missing out on that.

That would have been much more realistic. We had the life size dummies but of course they didn't bend or move like a real person so it wasn't a true picture. Loved learning how to change sheets with someone in the bed and those hospital corners. We practiced our shots on oranges.
