Become a Nurse without Nursing School

Published

Anyone know of any opportunities abroad to become a nurse thru apprenticeship rather than thru traditional education?

(I'm fed up with looking for accelerated programs, having to meet bogus requirements, etc. I'd rather just do on-the-job training for 3/4 the pay in some other country. Anyone know of anything like this?)

I knew that!! BTW, have you seen the cat food commercial where the cat is closer every time the woman turns around? Whoever came up with that one must have seen the "Weeping Angels" episodes at some point lol.

I'm gonna have to fine that one!

Most of mine are to shut up because I'm just a student and don't know what I'm talking about. Which I don't know what my being a student had to do with my knowledge of BS, but okay.

Wow, that's not very nice. God knows you've been pretty forthcoming with that info, too. I could see if you were challenging help offered by senior membership and contradicting people left and right, but I haven't see you do that.

Yeah, no. That's rude and that is somewhere I have absolutely no reason to be except to learn. The only place I actually give advice is in the pre nursing forum if I feel I can help someone.

I haven't had a good NastyGram PM in a few months now! Maybe I'm slipping, LOL...

I HAVE been getting more PMs about the PVT, and it's honestly a reason for my vigilance on the NCLEX board....the embarrassed ones aren't keen on posting about their humiliations, but PM instead.

At any rate....information is knowledge :)

I hate reading those people arguing with you about that stupid PVT. And I still don't get it. From my understanding there's only 2 states that don't participate in quick results, right? But still these people risk $200 instead of waiting 48 hours and paying $8. Nonsensical.

I have gotten in plenty of arguments with people over the PVT. Lol.

"It worked for me & my cohort so it's valid & everyone should use it!" Then I try to explain to them what the PVT is & etc but they don't want to hear it. Ugh. >.

I'm at the point where I look at it like this. I give the information, as I know it to be. If someone posts something that is absolutely wrong (and the wrongness is likely to cause someone ELSE a problem), then I answer with the correct info. If the person persists in propagating myths and falsehoods, if my mood is in it I might try again....but if not.....I just click off the thread.

Sometimes it's really worth the back-and-forth if someone's foolhardy ways are going to hurt someone else; sometimes it's just someone who does not (and seemingly CANNOT "get it") and there's just nothing to do with them anymore.

Just seems to me that people who are looking for the "real deal" on NCLEX information SHOULD be able to differentiate someone who is clueless ("ok, I failed 5 times, so I REALLY know how to pass (!)") from someone who...maybe, possibly....DOES have a clue.

Whatever. For some people it comes down to "do it, don't do it. Freak out, don't freak out." And hope to heck none of us has to precept them....

This is very interesting ...I went to school and still feel under qualified..every day is a learning experience and you really can't skip the schooling part. Theres a lot of important stuff we have to learn.

Right?! When the majority of test takers pass, yes, the majority of test takers will get an "accurate result" when they do it too soon. Idiots. We need to get all of the "I got charged $200 and passed!" posts in one pinned post. I just can't bring myself to care enough to dig. Part of me feels like if you can't read one single page of a nearly 600 post thread, you are an idiot and you really need to get off the internet.

God, these new nurses are probably the ones that get complained about in the "my orientee is a know it all" threads.

^^ If Pearson View really wanted to make a killing, they would charge all cards when people authorized the $200--pass or fail. Word would get out quickly and only then would people become true believers.

Those who try the expired card or insufficient funds 'trick' would freak if their results got put on hold until they made good on the payment they authorized. Then they could find out they wasted $200.

Thank you - I'm starting add am HHA while applying to community college for their LPN program. The only path/schedule i can manage or afford without massive student debt.

What will it take to make this happen? This needs to happen. Petition, anyone?
