Beckfield college

U.S.A. Kentucky

Does anyone know anything about Beckfield college in Florence KY? They have an RN program that I am looking into. My friend received her Paralegal degree there and liked it. The RN progam sounds really good. Appreciate any feedback. Thanks

Yeah well the pass rates for the school say everything. I think it was an 83% last year on the NCLEX. You can check on kbn website.

So are you working as an RN now? If so, did you grad from Beckfield? Or end up going to another school?

I graduated from Beckfield. There is a lot of the drama she mentioned...but it's easy to stay out of it! It's a small school so don't tell anybody anything you wouldn't want them to know. I managed to get through the 2 years without failing, she mentioned it's difficult, and without getting mixed up in the faculty knowing my personal life. Leave that junk at the door.

I felt prepared when I left and passed my NCLEX easily the first time. Good luck.

Amen to that! I steer clear of the drama whenever possible---nooooo thank you!

That's what I like to hear!

I'm glad Beckfield worked out well for you.

Did you have any trouble getting a job as a new grad?

I didn't have trouble, but I took a job in Ohio and kinda wish I would have taken one in KY at St E. In KY you can start working before you take boards, in OH you can't....unless you go to one of the Mercy hospitals.

Just apply early, bug the crap out of recruiters who don't call back when they say they will, and get your interviews done early. I was interviewing as early as 4 months before I graduated. It may be easy to find a job but they're in no hurry to give it to you!!

Thanks for the tips!

I will definately keep that in mind!

xoshellxo - please dont take this post like i am bashing you for anything, because i am not...i just love your post and feel like i need to vent at the rest about what they are saying.

Yes, I was part of that 83%, actually my class that graduated in March '08, 43 out of 45 passed boards on the first try. That was a 100% improvement from the classes that graduated ahead of us. Beckfield is a newer program. My class was just the 4th class that graduated. They are constantly making adjustments so that they can have that 85% pass rate they need in order to get accrediation. Accrediation is what all of us graduates need them to achieve so all of our credits we took at Beckfield transfer to other colleges and universities so we can continue our education to a BSN, MSN or further.

Nothing about nursing school is easy. Its hard as hell. let me give you guys a little bit of information, the local hospitals in Cincinnati/NKY love to hire Beckfield new grads because we come out of the program SHINING. We know what we are doing for being a Novice nurse.

I think i read in a previous post don't let your personal business out...that is so true...beckfield is a small school, and just like a small town, if you let your personal information out EVERYONE knows. So keep your personal business to yourself.

As far a favoritism, no one can be the teachers pet...what i noticed is that those who were achieving got along with the instructors much better than those who werent...and those who werent achieving were the ones complaining about the program all the time. There are very very few that go through the program with a 4.0. I think we had one (1) with a 3.95 and two (2) with a 3.5.

So YES i will stick up for Beckfield whenever I feel the need to stick up for them. I am a survivor, and if you aren't willing to work HARD for what you want, then you don't want to be a NURSE to begin with!!!!!

This is an old thread, but I found it searching for information on when Beckfield might be adding the bachelor's program, and if anyone else finds it, I feel like I need to say a few things too.

I graduated from Beckfield's ADN program. Yes, I felt there were times that some students got advantages that others did not. But those were isolated incidents that pertained to a certain teacher and a certain clinical instructor. If anyone got a hard way to go it was those of us who were singled out in the OB clinicals. Those were terrifying times for a handful of us.

BUT, when my circumstances were looking bad and some unforeseen things happened, I TOLD those who needed to know (including the DON and the clinical coordinator) and together we worked out something so that I had the opportunity to pass. Otherwise I would have certainly failed. They talked about it with me in private and never mentioned it in the presence of other students. I might add that I was NOT a teacher's pet or one of the students who blatantly tried to gain favor like those who brought the instructor coffee and those who tried to learn more about the instructor's lives outside of school. (My lips are pink, not brown, if you get my meaning.) But I did WELL in college and I passed the NCLEX the first time around.

It was hard. It really was. Personally, I don't think everyone's cut out to be a nurse. I'm sorry if anyone's offended, but being a nurse isn't just about how much you care (though caring has a lot to do with it). You have to have some intelligence and you DEFINITELY need a good work ethic. You also need to realize that those who try to one-up you, have snotty attitudes, kiss butt to the higher-ups, and are looking to correct you if ever you're incorrect (and NO ONE is perfect) exist IN THE FIELD. You'll work with nurses like that. Personally, I let them be. I didn't work that hard to gain favor with people who meant nothing before I enrolled in college. I did this so I could better myself and my family. If you can't deal with the bad eggs in nursing you might need only to reassess why you decided to be a nurse.

Anyway, I'm a proud Beckfield College alumna. I knew everyone there and they knew me. I couldn't imagine having gone to a bigger school where I was a number instead of a student.

I saw Beckfield Cincinnati's TV commercial last evening. Very costly. Bumps up way up tuition. Now has anyone checked to see if Beckfield is accredited by the NLNAC, the only national accredition agency. National League of Nursing Accreditation Comm. Beckfied is NOT ACCREDITED. Also have you checked with the Ohio Board of Nursing. I could not find that Beckfield was an approved program. Back to the advertisement. Ohio consumer law requires Beckfield to put in its TV advertisement a note that it is not accredited, at least. I am not sure on the approval by the Nursing Board if it is not approved, then this must go in the advertisment.

Unfortunately many of the for profit programs are not accredited. The result---- students sacrifice -- pay double or triple the state school rate but, without a degree, from an accredited school, the graduate can not qualify for most hospital positions. God Bless them and you.

JohnRebel, I'm not sure if you are IN the field or looking to go to a college, but you are misinformed. Beckfield College is accredited. You CAN get a license in ANY state after graduating their ADN program and fulfilling the state's requirements for licensure. How do I know? I have a license and so do most of the graduates who graduated with me and before me. Furthermore, there probably isn't a hospital in the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky area that does not have a Beckfield College graduate employed as an RN.

This kind of misinformation circulates every year. When I first started going to Beckfield there was talk going around by other students saying Beckfield wasn't accredited. They are under CONDITIONAL accreditation because their program is still relatively new. It takes many years to get full accreditation. But they ARE in good standing and they are on track for full accreditation.

I mean, if you don't want to go to Beckfield, don't. Beckfield RN graduates are real nurses. Either that, or I'm being paid and given credit for being an RN when I'm not. lol

Go to Beckfiled. However, expecting your credits to

transfer is out of the question. It is rather convient when

your entire finiancial aide file disappears and your

admissions rep. and financial aide advisor also

convientely do not work there anymore so your stuck with

credits that won't transfer and a supposed debt to them even

though you were in Texas while they said you were supposedly

attending class there.
