Starting assignment at Vanderbilt Nashville
Has anyone taken assignment in Nashville? It's a short 8 week contract so I won't have much time in the area. Any tips/advice? Any must do things? I just finished 13 weeks in California so I'm happy to be within 4 hours of home for the Summer....but still want to have tons of fun in Nashville! Thanks!

Beckfield college
I didn't have trouble, but I took a job in Ohio and kinda wish I would have taken one in KY at St E. In KY you can start working before you take boards, in OH you can't....unless you go to one of the Mercy hospitals. Just apply early, bug the crap out of recruiters who don't call back when they say they will, and get your interviews done early. I was interviewing as early as 4 months before I graduated. It may be easy to find a job but they're in no hurry to give it to you!!

Ever pull the wrong med from the right cubie in the Pyxis?
Yes, and this is why I'm glad my hospital uses the 'scanner' method at the bedside. That's the extra red flag I need as a new nurse to help me not give the wrong med!

Beckfield college
I graduated from Beckfield. There is a lot of the drama she mentioned...but it's easy to stay out of it! It's a small school so don't tell anybody anything you wouldn't want them to know. I managed to get through the 2 years without failing, she mentioned it's difficult, and without getting mixed up in the faculty knowing my personal life. Leave that junk at the door. I felt prepared when I left and passed my NCLEX easily the first time. Good luck.

How much did you earn your first year?
My hospital starts at $21.50 base pay with a $4 shift diff for nights. There is a raise after 90 days.

nclex date question
In addition to what sonicnurse said, my school had to release my transcript to the state board yadda yadda yadda. Only took a week though. Just proof that you did graduate. If I could go back, I would have gotten my fingerprints done and mailed in my application to the board with the fee before I even graduated. Contact your state board and ask first, but in most states you can do that before you graduate and it will speed the process when you do! Good luck and congrats!!

How long did it take you to get NCLEX results?
I'm in Kentucky and I've NEVER heard of it taking more than 2 days! That's crazy!! Even if you can't pay pearson vue for the quick result, my name was up on the board of nursing with my license number in 2 days. What a bummer!
