Does anyone know anything about Beckfield college in Florence KY? They have an RN program that I am looking into. My friend received her Paralegal degree there and liked it. The RN progam sounds really good. Appreciate any feedback. Thanks
Beckfield College Florence Kentucky Campus offers LPN, RN and RN to BSN Programs.
The Tri-County Ohio Beckfield College does not offer any of these Programs at this time.
Beckfield College Florence Kentucky Campus is Accredited by the ACIS
(Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools)
Beckfield College Florence Kentucky Campus Nursing Programs are Approved by the KBN
(Kentucky Board of Nursing)
Beckfield College Florence Kentucky Campus is a member of the NLN-AC
(National League of Nursing Accreditation Commission) and is currently in the process of becoming Accredited by them. NLN "candidacy" is a step towrds NLN Accreditation. Candidacy status is itself a lengthy process. Just because the College is not listed as current "candidacy" on the website does not indicate that the process has not started.
Many people, when researching Nursing schools, get confused on the differences between Nursing Program Approval, overall School Accreditation and NLN Accreditation/Candidacy.
It's necessary to understand that these are 3 entirely separate forms of status.
The Kentucky Board of Nursing does not care if a Program is Accredited by the NLN, only that they - the KBN - have approved the School.
Beckfield College Tri-County, Ohio location does not offer any Nursing Programs at this time. Why would the Ohio Board of Nursing have any information on Programs that currently exist only in Kentucky?
xoshellxo -nothing about nursing school is easy. Its hard as hell. Let me give you guys a little bit of information, the local hospitals in cincinnati/nky love to hire beckfield new grads because we come out of the program shining. We know what we are doing for being a novice nurse.
...and those who werent achieving were the ones complaining about the program all the time.
If you aren't willing to work hard for what you want, then you don't want to be a nurse to begin with!!!!!
the most honest and realistic opinion on this site concerning nursing & beckfield college!!
GOOD FOR YOU!! You've taken the first step....hang in there and don't let ANYTHING keep you from your goal! Rocks may be thrown in your road, but they aren't anything you can't sweep away, go around or roll over! It truly is a GREAT program and you will be challenged and proud when you finish!
I start the LPN program in October. I was at Beckfield Spring quarter in the medical assisting program because at the time, I didn't have the money for nursing (I'm paying a significant amount out of pocket). I really like Beckfield, but it is expensive. Right now their NCLEX-PN pass rate is 100%, so I am hoping I will get what I am paying for.
Having been in the medical field for nearly all of my professional life, I agree with other posts that it takes a very tough skin to deal with co-workers. It's an emotional job. People take it home with them, and they also bring home to work. If you care enough to be a good nurse, it is often hard to "turn off" everything you care about at any given time.
I think the hardest thing for me (other than math ) will be keeping to myself so that I don't get involved in drama. I am a people person and I love talking to people and learning from them. I really feel though, especially after reading some of this, that privacy will be the best policy. I am an honest, open person, and I don't feel I have anything to hide but I think I am definitely going to have to learn to turn my filters on!
filters can be a good thing when dealing not only with patients and their families but also with other healthcare professionals, especially doctors. after 20 years at the same hospital i can tell you that putting emotions and normal reactions in check in order to do your job is essential. but, you do not want to become so calloused that your humanity suffers. tough love and filters! if you talk with enough current and former nursing students at area colleges i think you will find that the cost issue is somewhat irrelevant. we all have to watch our dollars these days but when it comes to something as important as passing your nclex-pn the first time you take it..........cost and quality usually go hand in hand. the schools with questionable or below acceptable pass rates are pretty cheap! you do get what you pay for and there are more expensive schools in the tri-state area than beckfield college.
Two questions for Beckfield Grads:
1. I just read about the 120hr internship you're supposed to do after your NCLEX-PN but before permanent licensure... How does that work and does Beckfield help you find a place to do it?
2. Being so close to Cincinnati, how does licensure work if you find a job in Ohio?
Any insight/info is appreciated!!!
Not sure about the internship, but at graduation time they ask you what nursing board you want yor school transcripts etc sent to. I chose Ohio but took my NCLEX in Louisville for scheduling purposes. You also choose where you want your NCLEX results sent to when you register on Pearson-Vue.
I just applied for my KY license after working in Ohio so no need for the 120 hours.....

On Beckfield College cincinnati, I just checked the NLNAC web page under cadidacy and Beckfield is not listed. Ohio has conditional approval by the State Nursing Board, but that is different from accreditation.
