I got FIRED,....now what?
Our hospital has the same "no excuse" policy. You can't call off without getting an occurance and 3 occurances and you are gone!!! It doesn't matter if you were in a really bad car accident on your way to work and ended up in the ICU, that is an occurance...only way to get out of the "occurance" is if you have to be off for an extended period of time and file FMLA papers...what a joke. they dont want us to come to work if we have signs or symptoms of H1N1 but you will get an occurance...We signed contracts when we were first hired that says that we are "at will employees" meaning...doesn't matter what they fired you for you can't draw unemployment. Its crazy I know...but it happens all the time!

I am a Med-Surg RN on a renal failure/kidney transplant floor. I have been a nurse for a year and a half now. I :redbeathe my unit. I want to get certified in Transplant Nursing. Eventually I do want to work in the SICU, so I can get the transplants fresh from surgery. However, I am greatful that I started on Med-Surg before going into critical care, because I am learning soooo much!!!!!

Are you an RN?
That is MaryAnn's class...I hope you have survived...she is really tough, but a great teacher.

Simple things new nurses or experiece nurses are not doing?
And when they do that with a PICC or central line. don't they realize that air can get into their line and cause A LOT of problems!!!!!!!!

Beckfield college
xoshellxo - please dont take this post like i am bashing you for anything, because i am not...i just love your post and feel like i need to vent at the rest about what they are saying. Yes, I was part of that 83%, actually my class that graduated in March '08, 43 out of 45 passed boards on the first try. That was a 100% improvement from the classes that graduated ahead of us. Beckfield is a newer program. My class was just the 4th class that graduated. They are constantly making adjustments so that they can have that 85% pass rate they need in order to get accrediation. Accrediation is what all of us graduates need them to achieve so all of our credits we took at Beckfield transfer to other colleges and universities so we can continue our education to a BSN, MSN or further. Nothing about nursing school is easy. Its hard as hell. let me give you guys a little bit of information, the local hospitals in Cincinnati/NKY love to hire Beckfield new grads because we come out of the program SHINING. We know what we are doing for being a Novice nurse. I think i read in a previous post don't let your personal business out...that is so true...beckfield is a small school, and just like a small town, if you let your personal information out EVERYONE knows. So keep your personal business to yourself. As far a favoritism, no one can be the teachers pet...what i noticed is that those who were achieving got along with the instructors much better than those who werent...and those who werent achieving were the ones complaining about the program all the time. There are very very few that go through the program with a 4.0. I think we had one (1) with a 3.95 and two (2) with a 3.5. So YES i will stick up for Beckfield whenever I feel the need to stick up for them. I am a survivor, and if you aren't willing to work HARD for what you want, then you don't want to be a NURSE to begin with!!!!!

Mark Klimek Refresher Course
I took his course back in April of last year...it was great. I know you didn't go there, but call Northern Kentucky University, nursing department. He holds a lot of his sessions there, they should be able to give you the information as to when he will have a session there! Good luck, keep studying, and NEVER DOUBT YOURSELF!!! :prdnrs:

Cincinnati Hospitals
I am a new nurse 5/08, and I currently work at Christ Hospital. I feel very comfortable there. They have a critical care internship 3 times a year if you are interested in ED, ICU, Telemetry, Hemodialysis, or PACU. They consider themselves a "teaching hospital" and you do learn. I have been on my own now since Nov 08, and I am learning new things every single day. The nurses there are very receptive to new nurses and always offer help. They have computerized charting now, which is totally awesome! And they are going to try to get magnet status in 2010. Good luck in your nursing career! :prdnrs:

Why Does Everyone Hate Florida So Much??
Where I am from up north in Cincinnati, an ADN makes just as much as a BSN. Just because someone only has their ADN doesn't make them less educated, it makes them eager to start in a workforce that is going through a shortage. I have my ADN and i feel very competent in my work. I can do everything one with a BSN can do with the exception of teach and be a clinical manager (which neither am I interested in). I became a nurse to take care of people, so therefore I think that my education is ample for the work I do. And I CAN'T WAIT to move to Florida in June!!!!

RN program advice
Yes, from the get go when i started beckfield in '06 i was told that you could go to NKU for your BSN and they would take your credits from Beckfield. I am one who chooses NEVER TO GO TO SCHOOL AGAIN!!!! I did my time, I am finished, now i just want to be a NURSE!!!! I work at Christ Hosp as a RN. I don't know anyone who didn't get a job right out of school most had jobs waiting for them before we finished. The Lukes really seem to like Beckfield graduates, so does St. Elizabeth, University, Childrens, Good Sam, Christ, Ft. Hamilton, Mercy just to name a few those are the hospitals that my classmates got jobs at. Good luck with everything...when you do get a chance to talk to Melissa you will find she is a very nice person :)

nursing rates in Pensacola area
i appreciate your response to this post. no one but sacred heart has contacted me about anything...i guess i just need to apply for a job and then maybe someone will talk LOL. its just a little scary...i will have to start repaying all of my student loans back starting next summer, and if i take a paycut, then i might not be able to afford the move i really want to be closer to my fam, but i guess worse case scenario, i could get a nursing job and work PT somewhere to pay for the loans...i guess i will just have to see :) Thanks again!!!

Moving to Pensacola Jun '09
thanks chancie...only one hospital has contacted me about their starting rate and that was sacred heart, and he said that its up to nursing administration as to what rate a RN is started at but the lowest they pay RNs is 18.59/hr...i am a new grad in cincy and make 20.66/hr...i just really don't want to take that kind of a pay cut...however, i want to be closer to my family that lives in P'cola, so i might just have to take the cut and get over it. Baptist told me they only give out wage information during interviews...so i guess i will have to find out in may when i go down to interview before we move...thanks for all your help :) heather
