Just wanted to start a group for students applying for the BCIT January program!
Hey guysDoes anyone know how they determined who gets into the shortlist? Like is the shortlist based on grades?
So if you are in the shortlist do they still rank you based on grades or do they only rank the final accepted people based on the questionnaire?
Thanks in advance!
I did not apply for this intake however I have e-mailed admissions advisors in the past and their response was the following:
Admission to the Nursing program is by competition. The level of competition for admission will depend of the caliber of the applications received. Applicants are ranked on a point system in the application review. Highest points to academics, second to work experience, and third to completion of LIBS 7001/7002. GPA of short-listed applicants is taken into consideration (no specific GPA requirement, but students with poor transcripts will not be short-listed).
Hope that helps you!
Hi jyyw,
Thanks for this info. I'm way too surprised they give points for LIBS as these courses never mentioned as obligation before applying or as boosters of points, and only optional tool to relieve a coursework later on. Regarding academic and work experience portions I have no question as it's the core of any competitive program as well as interview etc
Just finished my questionnaire! The time crunch was definitely scary! Good luck to everyone! Hopefully see you in January.
And in terms of the above comments. I think it varies, I had good grades for my pre-wrecks but a bunch of below average grades from first year science course like math and physics, and a couple fails in there too. But I have a lot of health related volunteering, and research. I think the extra circular is the main thing that got me through to the short list.
In regards to Libs 7001 and 7002 it definitely doesn't state on the website that they consider it in the application, but actually.... it does make sense. Those that take it before hand, its like you're saying to them " Hey i really want and am committed to the program and so I will take these before to show my commitment". Good luck everyone! I wish more then anything for us all to get in...
Hi guys, i am still kind of confused about what self regulating is.... for those who had done the questionnaire did they provide and example or a definition of it? Because in the pdf they provided ( important information pdf) it seems like self regulation in the context of nursing is something that is governed by the government or the institution that you work for? I'm having trouble of thinking of personal experience for this :/
Thanks in advance!
Hi Baiyujen:
They're pretty good at clearly defining what they want in the questionnaire.
For self-regulating, they mostly wanted to know how we managed a stressful situation successfully while still maintaining our personal health.
I was feeling anxious doing the quiz, so I sort of rushed through, it. I ended up giving an example of how I had handled stress poorly, and what I learned from that, and have applied to my future situations (Geez, I hope I'm not accepted just for that/I wish I used my extra 20 minutes to think of a better answer lol)
