Hello everyone!
Now that the 2018 January applications are open, I thought that a thread should be started about it.
To those that are wondering, I'm applying with:
A&P 1 - A-
A&P 2 - A-
Psychology - A-
English - A-
Physics (elective 1) - A-
Philosophy (elective 2) - B
So, overall I'm applying with a 3.55 GPA. I have no previous degree, or relevant work experience. However, I do have relevant volunteer experiences.
I'm so nervous about my chances getting in. How are you guys feeling? What are your grades like?
Good luck to us all! :)
@curiouspanda The time people losing hope is at the moment the result of acceptance has been sent out. Therefore the worrying doesn't have no reason.
I quickly looked through the background of selected students in the August 2017 intake. Quite a lot of students just got their bachelor graduating from SFU or UBC in this June. I just feel like " what? It seems the so-called waiting game has been ended from then. "
When I went to the program consulting, the adviser did tell me the selection committee prefers applicants have a degree. I thought those applicants they need to apply for a different bachelor program because they cannot find a job after trying. It seems they are lucky finishing one degree and then starting the other one while other people do not have a chance to start one as the education resources is scarce.
I am not blaming anything. If the applicant is more like to succeed it is good for the school and selected applicant.
Hey everyone! I am shortlisted too, and thought I would jump in on the conversation!
I wonder if the questions they ask on the quiz be more situation based like "Describe when" or will it be "what are your strengths and weaknesses"... I always disliked that question.. haha.
I am also wondering if we would be considered for the April intake as well if we get waitlisted? All of this is so new to me still, it will be my first time applying!

I'm sure you can request to be considered for the April intake still (double check though). But keep in mind that the April intake (and every intake going onwards) will have a different curriculum from the January 2018 curriculum.
I have heard that the questions will be interview style.
This is a reply of an email I sent
"With the new intake in April, shortlisted applicants for the January intake will also be shortlisted for the April intake. An additional application is not required. If a student is not offered a seat for January, then the student wouldn't be considered for April either. The student would have to wait and apply for the September 2018 intake. This is only taking place for the 2018 January and April intakes," it may not be the same for the 2019 intakes.
I think it's less spots than that. As far as I know, with the new curriculum starting, they are still accepting the same number of students per year, it's just being split up over three cohorts. So 60ish people will be let each semester. At least that's what they told me at the office when I was asking about it. I'm not sure if that's still the case. It might actually be 150 spots because they will probs take 96 into the current curriculum in Januaray and start the 66 intake in april.

That's the same thing I was told when I was taking my prerequisites at BCIT. So, I think it's 250 people competing for less than 128 seats (since some people got accepted right away).

meaning, if a student who applied for January intake gets an offer, the student may have a choice to be considered for April since being shortlisted for January also means being shortlisted for April? and so, if a student did not get offered a seat for January after being shortlisted on that intake, then the student will be automatically be given no seat offer for the April intake since the person shortlisted did not get in the cut for January? therefore, I assume whatever outcome a January applicant intake receives, will reflect its April intake reapplication.
i asked the Admissions Officer(AO) something similar and the AO simply said a student can only apply either January or April intake, and not both. I didnt ask any further questions at the time so I applied for the April intake since I assume not many people would be interested in applying for the later date, thus less competition xD. but anyway with the information given to you by an AO, it kinda made sense to me why they didnt allow students apply to both intakes.

I was waitlisted for aug 2017 and applied again and I am waitlisted again. I also took more courses to improve my application.
