BCIT January 2018 Intake

Published

Hello everyone!

Now that the 2018 January applications are open, I thought that a thread should be started about it.

To those that are wondering, I'm applying with:

A&P 1 - A-

A&P 2 - A-

Psychology - A-

English - A-

Physics (elective 1) - A-

Philosophy (elective 2) - B

So, overall I'm applying with a 3.55 GPA. I have no previous degree, or relevant work experience. However, I do have relevant volunteer experiences.

I'm so nervous about my chances getting in. How are you guys feeling? What are your grades like?

Good luck to us all! :)

So, I think it's 250 people competing for less than 128 seats (since some people got accepted right away).

by 250 people, did you mean 250 shortlisted january applicants from previous posts? and 128 seats, meaning a combination of January and April intakes?

if they were to offer a combination of seats for January and April intakes, I assume they wouldn't tell applicants that students are not allowed to apply to both intakes, they would just simply open only one application for January and April online. hence, they opened applications for April, separately from the January Intake, and that seats are offered depending on the student's chosen intake. thats my interpretation from all this forum's inputs and not from any AO i spoken to BTW.

Hey@ catandion and terrycat, could you please tell me, how was non- cognitive questions? were they straight forward or little bit trickey ? Thanks.

It is pretty confusing. Maybe they've allocated an X number of April intake seats for January intake applicants, and the rest of the April intake seats goes to those who applied for April only.

They have also said that 250 applicants have been shortlisted and there are 96 seats (this is for January) the only people that were accepted right away were those on the hold list for aug 2017.

We will see! Be confident! Good luck everyone!

Guys instead of focusing on no. of seats, focus on non-cognitive questions. It's better to start preparing, to grab your chance.

It was really straightforward to me. Think of it like a written interview. The standards of nursing are traits nurses must demonstrate and they'll ask you to give examples of when in the past you demonstrated them

Do you feel like you have to do any sort of prep for the quiz?

Don't think of it as a quiz because it's not one. I read over the standards at the link they supplied and had an idea of a few different scenarios I could write about for each trait/quality

Describing scenarios in which you show you have the required skills (stated in the email from bcit) to solve conflicts. Make sure the scenario you describe is conflictual such as the conflicts happen between patient and nurse. In each questions, word limit is 250 and you have 90 minutes to answer four questions.

Were you both able to fill up each question with 250 words? My biggest worry is I won't have enough to say. I know that 250 words is a maximum, but I feel like a 100 word response won't be taken well.

You will see. I heard that tt is better that you answer the question like a nurse is recording an incident in a ward.

Interesting! I hadn't heard that before. I definitely filled mine out like a narrative. I was over on all of my word counts but I tend to be wordy. Try not to go over though. I have heard you can loose marks for it.
