BCIT January 2018 Intake

Published

Hello everyone!

Now that the 2018 January applications are open, I thought that a thread should be started about it.

To those that are wondering, I'm applying with:

A&P 1 - A-

A&P 2 - A-

Psychology - A-

English - A-

Physics (elective 1) - A-

Philosophy (elective 2) - B

So, overall I'm applying with a 3.55 GPA. I have no previous degree, or relevant work experience. However, I do have relevant volunteer experiences.

I'm so nervous about my chances getting in. How are you guys feeling? What are your grades like?

Good luck to us all! :)

hi everyone,

I am in level 4 of the program currently. Let me know if you are any questions.

Hi all, I will be applying to January 2018 intake as well. I only have a 3.1 GPA based on my prerequisite courses, but I have work and volunteer experience as well as a bachelor degree from France. I hope it will suffice. I also plan to take Libs courses in the fall. @xoxkayytee thanks for offering your help! Do you have any students in your intake who have a low GPA like mine? Thanks in advance for your feedback :-) and good luck everyone!

Hey! A BCIT advisor told me that a 3.00 GPA is considered competitive, so I wouldn't call it "low". :) What's your degree in?

Hi Twinky, I have a bachelor degree in English. Your grades are outstanding! Good job! & thanks for the info, that's reassuring!

Hey guys,

I will be applying to the January 2018 intake too at BCIT, as well as at Kwantlen for fall 2017. Currently, I am redoing A&P-1 in order to bump up my GPA and hopefully apply before the August 31 deadline. I am estimating my GPA will bump from 3.3 to 3.5 if I end up doing better on my A&P. I have 60 plus hours of related volunteer experience and over 100 hours of unrelated volunteer experience. Also, anyone know how the high school marks are calculated into the GPA? I am also wondering if I need to officially transfer my Kwantlen courses to BCIT in order to apply or just submitting my transcript with the application would work?

Hi J.gill for the prereqs you don't need to transfer them usually. Just submit a transcript when you apply. Once you're in the program if you have any courses you want to transfer such as microbiology you will need to apply to transfer those.

I don't think 3.1 is considered low! I applied with a degree with my GPA as 3.23. My pre-req classes (A and P and such) we in the A's but I don't think 3.1 is bad! We are further along in the program so theres not a lot of talk about GPA's but I bet theres people in the program with far lower than that!

are you guys applying for the January intake or April intake??

Hey aaaibra, I will be applying to the January intake, but I am wondering if it is possible to apply to both the intakes at ones since the deadlines are the same.

Hey TerryCat, thanks for making it clear. Anyone know whether it is true that the sooner you apply the better chances you have of getting in?

Where did you hear that about applying early helping to get in???
