BCIT January/April 2019 Intake Discussion

Published

Hey everyone, I know the BCIT January 2019 admission deadline is still a ways to go but I just wanted to know how many people are planning to apply, and also exchange some advice and questions with each other.

First off, I'd like to show you what I am applying with:

Highschool reqs

Precalc 12 - 99

CHEM 11 - 86

UNI reqs (UBC)

ENG112 - 74 (B)

PSYC101 - 72 (B)

CPSC - 86 (A)

STAT - 82 (A-)

A&P1 - TBD

A&P2 - TBD

I'm taking A&P in the Summer

experiences

- senior home (occupational therapy) volunteer

- first aid volunteer

- pharmacy assistant volunteer

Here are my questions:

Does BCIT determine your GPA based on your own university's grading scale? Or their own? And also, I'm not too sure about how to calculate GPA, since there are so many different scales online. Can anyone provide an accurate estimate of my GPA?

Does number of hours you've volunteered matter? Or do they consider it by months? Because I don't see a box where you input how many hours in the form.

How strong does my application look so far, and any advice?

Welp guys, got a non-offer :( congratulations on everyone who got in! I better see those who didn't get in this intake reapply for the next intake! :)

Ugh. I got a non offer. Good luck to everyone who got in next year! I'll see the rest of you next intake! Not giving up on this!

Awe, I'm still on waitlist, not top 15, and will probably just apply for the next intake which starts tmr! I guess see you guys there and hopefully we will all get in for it!

Just got an email I was waitlisted but not in the top 15 :(

I heard back earlier today - also waitlisted but not top 15.

Checked my status online and I got a non-offer for April. Congrats to those who got in and good luck to those still waiting! Maybe I'll see those applying again in the next intake? :)

I'm sorry to hear all of this :(

I'm still in the waiting game for the waitlist as well.

Don't think we'd be hearing back anytime soon, so I'll most likey apply for the next intake as well!

For sure, dont give up. Remember that we were shortlisted to do the questionnaire!

I hope to see you guys there and good luck to us :)

Hopefully we can all make it in together and meet in the next intake!! :)

That would be awesome! You guys are all great people and we all got short listed for a reason, hope to see you all in the next intake if you don't get in for this intake.

But if those of you who are on the waitlist do get in, update us on this forum!! :)

Hi guys, I also have been silently following this forum and got on the waiting list today too (not top 15).

Does anybody know what the chances are for us to get in is? (If anybody know of previous cases where not top 15 got in?)

Mhmm!! I couldn't make it this far without this forum!

I really appreciate the support from you guys

For sure, I'll keep you all posted!! :) If not, you will see me popping in the Sept forum :)

Yes girl, that's what I like to hear!! We all got through this together

Anyone know how good the chance of getting in from the waitlist is? I've tried to find info regarding waitlist applicants getting accepted in previous intakes but no luck!

I got a non-offer too. See you guys next intake

I was just talking with my friend in the program right now and she said knows about 3 people from her cohort from the waitlist. But then again her cohort was of about 96 students compared to ~64 for us I suppose? Trying to stay optimistic !

Ahh I see, thanks for letting us know! I wonder why they dont tell you what position on the waitlist you are :/ I feel like that would help me understand what to do from here: stay on the waitlist or apply for sept

For those who got accepted, are any of you (or if you know of anyone) planning on deferring? Or going to another nursing school you've been accepted in?

Congratulations to everyone who has received their acceptance! :) I just wanted to share this comment from an old intake in case it applies to anyone:

"A kind word to those that have been offered a seat but know they will not attend: Please let BCIT know as soon as you know you won't be attending this program, so they may offer the seat to others on the waitlist as soon as possible. Many of those waitlisted have to wait to see if seats become available, and have to make life decisions like moving, pay tuitions/down payments on houses, enrol in other programs, start summer classes, jobs by certain deadlines these upcoming months. The later that they are accepted/rejected from the waitlist, the higher jeopardy the family, financial, academic and other issues of their lives are put at stake. This is hopefully a little reminder during this time, speaking to the humanity and compassion in all of us as future colleagues. As we all make insightful decisions, sending the best wishes to everyone, those making these decisions, those attending and those pursing a career elsewhere, good luck!"
