BCIT January/April 2019 Intake Discussion

Published

Hey everyone, I know the BCIT January 2019 admission deadline is still a ways to go but I just wanted to know how many people are planning to apply, and also exchange some advice and questions with each other.

First off, I'd like to show you what I am applying with:

Highschool reqs

Precalc 12 - 99

CHEM 11 - 86

UNI reqs (UBC)

ENG112 - 74 (B)

PSYC101 - 72 (B)

CPSC - 86 (A)

STAT - 82 (A-)

A&P1 - TBD

A&P2 - TBD

I'm taking A&P in the Summer

experiences

- senior home (occupational therapy) volunteer

- first aid volunteer

- pharmacy assistant volunteer

Here are my questions:

Does BCIT determine your GPA based on your own university's grading scale? Or their own? And also, I'm not too sure about how to calculate GPA, since there are so many different scales online. Can anyone provide an accurate estimate of my GPA?

Does number of hours you've volunteered matter? Or do they consider it by months? Because I don't see a box where you input how many hours in the form.

How strong does my application look so far, and any advice?

@ao123 I think the waitlist will first fill up the Jan seats (if they become available) and then once the deadline passes they will move over to April. There will either be seats available for the April intake or if it's full, they are waitlisted for April instead.

Were you waitlisted in the top 15 for the January intake?

Yes I was! But I'm unsure how it works now since April is hearing back. Last year April didn't find out until February.

Yea.. im thinking how many people would withdraw or move to April

Right. Do you think we would also be considered for April or top 15 just for January? I'm very confused haha.

Checked my status online and I got a non-offer for April. Congrats to those who got in and good luck to those still waiting! Maybe I'll see those applying again in the next intake? :)

Oh no Ian, I'm so sorry :( please do apply again! Hopefully we'll get in together for the next intake! :) You were short listed so your credentials are competitive, so don't give up!

I was rooting for you too Ian. Good luck next intake, hope to see you :)

Vanessa I emailed asking why we haven't heard anything yet and got an automatic reply saying they would respond in 3 business days LOL

Hi All,

I'm new to the community but I am a successful Applicant for April 2019! Wooo

I did not apply with a degree but had tons of different work/volunteer experience and 45 uni-transferable credits. Has anyone else been accepted to April 2019? Looking forward to meeting others :)

I emailed them yesterday and they responded today to tell me that the April intake will be hearing from them at the end of October, which is today. So i'm guessing anyone waitlisted or whatnot will be notified when spots open due to withdrawal or whatnot.

Ugh. I got a non offer. Good luck to everyone who got in next year! I'll see the rest of you next intake! Not giving up on this!

Welp guys, got a non-offer :( congratulations on everyone who got in! I better see those who didn't get in this intake reapply for the next intake! :)
