Hey everyone, I know the BCIT January 2019 admission deadline is still a ways to go but I just wanted to know how many people are planning to apply, and also exchange some advice and questions with each other.
First off, I'd like to show you what I am applying with:
Highschool reqs
Precalc 12 - 99
CHEM 11 - 86
UNI reqs (UBC)
ENG112 - 74 (B)
PSYC101 - 72 (B)
CPSC - 86 (A)
STAT - 82 (A-)
A&P1 - TBD
A&P2 - TBD
I'm taking A&P in the Summer
experiences
- senior home (occupational therapy) volunteer
- first aid volunteer
- pharmacy assistant volunteer
Here are my questions:
Does BCIT determine your GPA based on your own university's grading scale? Or their own? And also, I'm not too sure about how to calculate GPA, since there are so many different scales online. Can anyone provide an accurate estimate of my GPA?
Does number of hours you've volunteered matter? Or do they consider it by months? Because I don't see a box where you input how many hours in the form.
How strong does my application look so far, and any advice?
Yeah I got the same email! So it is better than absolutely nothing!! I think they are doing a lot of shuffling around tbh. They said that both Jan and April intakes should know their final status by the end of today... But I am confused if those that are placed on the waitlist (not in the top 15) do they take precedence over those who applied for April? Like Ian said hopefully they consider the April people first. Maybe there wasn't that many that applied for April? Maybe April won't have a waitlist? It'll be either a yes or no some time today? That way they would know how many seats are available for January waitlist people (after those that applied for April and got accepted). Plus I would assume all of those who are on the Jan waitlist should know their final status by mid-November or whenever it is that people accepted into Jan can defer to April/those that reject the offer/those who don't pay the commitment fee or tuition
Yes, that makes sense!
I'm still confused, could them telling us that we're waitlisted be our "final status".
I'm gonna be nervous until i find out where i'll be going to school haha!!
Good luck to everyone, and Congrats, this is a big accomplishment!

I know it's sooo nerve wracking!! I think our status will stay on "waitlist" until about mid-November where it could be switched to "accepted" (for the Jan intake) or "transfer date/term" (for April consideration).
I wish those who applied for January and got accepted didn't have the opportunity to switch from Jan to April. That way they would know exactly how many seats were available for April applicants/Jan waitlisted people. If you applied for a certain intake, you should have to accept that intake month unless you are on the waitlist (which is up to the nursing admissions, not us...).
But I just wanted to say that anyone who might be getting a rejection email today, don't get discouraged and give up!!! Maybe now just isn't the right time for you! Take an extra class or two, get some experience either via work or volunteer. Your time will come!!!

Mhm, I agree!
Another waiting game for us >.
I guess it would have been nice to know the general timeline regarding when both intakes hear back.
It has been very confusing. Even looking back at past forum, this year's process has just been different in terms of how both intake was shortlisted and took the quiz the same time.
Fingers crossed* Those who haven't heard back yet, hopefully you'll hear back soon :)
