BCIT January/April 2019 Intake Discussion

Published

Hey everyone, I know the BCIT January 2019 admission deadline is still a ways to go but I just wanted to know how many people are planning to apply, and also exchange some advice and questions with each other.

First off, I'd like to show you what I am applying with:

Highschool reqs

Precalc 12 - 99

CHEM 11 - 86

UNI reqs (UBC)

ENG112 - 74 (B)

PSYC101 - 72 (B)

CPSC - 86 (A)

STAT - 82 (A-)

A&P1 - TBD

A&P2 - TBD

I'm taking A&P in the Summer

experiences

- senior home (occupational therapy) volunteer

- first aid volunteer

- pharmacy assistant volunteer

Here are my questions:

Does BCIT determine your GPA based on your own university's grading scale? Or their own? And also, I'm not too sure about how to calculate GPA, since there are so many different scales online. Can anyone provide an accurate estimate of my GPA?

Does number of hours you've volunteered matter? Or do they consider it by months? Because I don't see a box where you input how many hours in the form.

How strong does my application look so far, and any advice?

I'm the fourth >.

So hard to stay positive about it :S

I'm the fourth >.

Count me in as the fifth one lol

Is this all your first time applying? I bet you tomorrow they will be sending out more waitlist emails (maybe top 50) and also rejection letters. Who knows though, someone got accepted on 31st last year so hopefully that'll be the case here!!

I wonder how many got accepted or waitlisted with similar applications to alot of us: non degree holders without years of health care related work experience. It seems like there were a lot of highly qualified applicants who were also well rounded and im sure that took up a majority of the seats

Yes this is my first time applying! What about you?

Ive been silently observing this forum for the last few months because I'm so discouraged from my non offer last intake.

I think last intake they sent out the non offers first before any of the offers or waitlist people got their status. So I'm not sure how they are doing it this year..

Hope we all find out this morning! Good luck to everyone who hasn't heard back yet!

Im 6th lol

Just got an email I was waitlisted but not in the top 15 :(

Hi everyone,

I've been silently observing this page, with nothing really to say.

Check your emails; i got waitlisted, not top 15, but better than nothing. It also says we'll be considered for the April intake if we don't get into the Jan intake. Does anyone have any guesses when that will be?

I sure hope that they consider those who actually applied for the April intake before accepting those waitlisted from the January intake.

I'd be mad if they skipped us. Lol

Yes, thats only fair! Since you applied for April, have they given you dates for when you'd know your final status?

"End of October" was mentioned in the Shortlist email.
