BCIT January/April 2019 Intake Discussion

Published

Hey everyone, I know the BCIT January 2019 admission deadline is still a ways to go but I just wanted to know how many people are planning to apply, and also exchange some advice and questions with each other.

First off, I'd like to show you what I am applying with:

Highschool reqs

Precalc 12 - 99

CHEM 11 - 86

UNI reqs (UBC)

ENG112 - 74 (B)

PSYC101 - 72 (B)

CPSC - 86 (A)

STAT - 82 (A-)

A&P1 - TBD

A&P2 - TBD

I'm taking A&P in the Summer

experiences

- senior home (occupational therapy) volunteer

- first aid volunteer

- pharmacy assistant volunteer

Here are my questions:

Does BCIT determine your GPA based on your own university's grading scale? Or their own? And also, I'm not too sure about how to calculate GPA, since there are so many different scales online. Can anyone provide an accurate estimate of my GPA?

Does number of hours you've volunteered matter? Or do they consider it by months? Because I don't see a box where you input how many hours in the form.

How strong does my application look so far, and any advice?

I didnt apply to Langaras program for January but am planning to for September 2019. but I would definitely choose BCIT over Langara if it came down to it

How does everyone think they did on the questionnaire btw??

I don't feel really strong about it because I changed one of my answers a couple of times and finished with 30 seconds left... :/ it is what it is though! How do you feel you did?

I am definitely second guessing everything I wrote. After submitting the questionnaire, I thought of so many better situations I could have written about so im feeling pretty bummed about that but trying to stay positive! My biggest worry is whether or not I fully answered what they were asking and if my "specific situations" were in enough detail.

If you dont get accepted or rejected for the Jan intake then get considered for April, does anyone know roughly when you hear back about your final status? I cant seem to find any info about the April intake from past forums

That's literally EXACTLY how I'm feeling too!! Currently in a mixed state of bummed out and excited at the same time hahaha. I had to shorten my specific examples significantly because there's a lot of back story to all of them and I wanted to go into detail using the STAR method, but with the word limit of 250 it was definitely a challenge to really fully express how I handled each situation and what knowledge I gained from those experiences

Do you guys think we'll hear back by tomorrow? The anticipation is killing me, I'm trying to stay as distracted as possible

I agree - I tried explaining the situation + task in as few sentences as possible to focus a majority on the actions, with a final 1-2 sentences for the results. Did you end your answer by relating what you learned to how it will benefit in nursing school? I was planning on doing that but hit the max word count for all my answers so I didnt have room left

If they don't send out emails on the weekend then I'm assuming we will hear back earliest by October 26th. I think they only have 5 ish business days to send out all the emails....

Nope, I maxed out my word limit for the last two questions, but I think either way I probably wouldn't have related what I learned to how it would benefit nursing school

I feel like some people will hear as early as tomorrow because for the 2018 intake, they finished their quiz on October 19th (which is a Thursday) and some heard back on the 26th (which is also a Thursday) and this year's 2019 intake's quiz was finished October 18th (Thurs) and tomorrow is the Thursday after! Ahhhh

Ahh, yes. That makes sense. Also, who knows if October 26th is the earliest people heard back for last Jan because I'm sure there were a lot of people who got accepted but weren't active on the allnurses forum
